I had never seen this before. Chris looks so good in red and her earings. Peak performances during this time. This video includes: Say You Love Me, Oh Well, Rhiannon, You Make Loving Fun, and Go Your Own Way.

Stevie is so buzzed... you can hear it in her voice. But they were at their peak here. I laugh my azz off at the thought that it was ever even CONSIDERED that Stevie could play the acoustic guitar part on GYOW... ![]()

Much like her arrhythmic tambourine playing, playing that part OUT OF TIME, would've ruined the song. I guess they could just mute her guitar(like her taped down tambourine jingles), and have Ray standing in the dark, backstage, playing the part, so she'd get credit. ![]()

Anyone remember the audio that was posted of Stevie trying to strum to GYOW. Even Stevie herself was laughing stating "I was cancelled before I got my first gig" or something like that. My memory is Lindsey really did think Stevie could play the acoustic part. But after several attempts Ray Lindsey got the nod.

Lindsey either thought he was the star of the band or thought he should be regarded as the star of the band.
But "Rhiannon" cemented Stevie as the star. At some point the song became neutered and a shadow of what it once was, but during this period Stevie breathed fire into it. Last edited by cbBen; 07-14-2026 at 05:55 PM.. |

Maybe its just me but one of the best moments in the Mirage concert is the beginning of YMLF. Right before Chris starts to sing Stevie comes on stage and it looks like Chris is giving side eye to Stevie. I wish I could have read her mind. The band tried not to let Stevie become the lead singer with the media and it clearly drove them nuts. Stevie never had a lead single off any of Mac albums. Besides one side of Tusk, Stevie never had the first song either side A or B of an album.

I'll address the rest separately, but as for singles: With the possible exception of "Dreams" (because of "GYOW"), "Rhiannon" "Dreams" and "Gypsy" (especially "Gypsy") are the obvious lead singles from their respective albums. Even with Say You Will, my choice for lead single would have been "Everybody Finds Out."

Of course this never happened. Stevie has zero discipline or focus to play an instrument well more than once. Rick Beato just posted an interview with Billy Joel and listening to him talk about piano playing, songwriting, etc. made me think of her ping-ping-ping demos. While I actually love them, still.... cringeworthy when in the company of actual musicians. That said, she's the multi-millionaire, not me so........

[QUOTE=bombaysaffires;1306046]Christine even said in an interview (Keyboard mag I think) that while Stevie wasn't a "great" piano player, Chris felt she should play something onstage just for the credibility of it.

I mean they obviously should have been the lead singles, not that they were.

Watch Mirage, with the guitar solo(that later got cut from their shows), and the demonic exorcism of her singing, before she started always playing it safe. What does the book say? ![]() ![]() ![]()

I love everything else about Mirage but the Rhiannon is terrible. Besides being neutered its also slowed down on the Mirage tour.
Shame because Waddy and her band did a noble job on her solo tour only to return to the Mac and flame out on Rhiannon. Ironically during the Klonopin haze the 1991 Timespace Rhiannon kicks ass.
