So comparisions between those two bands always have been there.

Now that I'm listening to the BN album more often, for obvious reasons, I wonder if it sounded like Eagles. Not a bit in my opinion. I'm sure Eagles and Fleetwood Mac must have lot of fans in common, and they are similar in some style, but I don't think Stevie & Lindsey's entry into the band would have created the risk of turning them into "another version of The Eagles".
There was a phrase or category that I don't hear anymore called "California Rock." I think it was the Yacht Rock of the 1970s and defined bands like The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Browne, Steely Dan, etc. I don't hear that category anymore but it was used in the 70s and early 80s.
There was a reason the bands were so close besides being based in California. They were competitive for awhile. Fleetwood Mac opened for the Eagles in many stadium shows in 1976. But the biggest competition was Rumours knocking Hotel California out of the #1 spot in early 1977. Then Rumours beat Hotel California again in the Grammy awards.
