Somehow Bruce Springsteen never worked a job in his life before he got signed in 1972, but if Stevie didn’t work in a “restaurant” Lindsey would have never been able to have gotten on a recording.

I got an email from FleetwoodMac.com announcing this release. That’s interesting to me since Lindsey’s no longer a member of FM.

I'm not trying to split hairs or be pedantic, but I think (if my memory is correct) we learned from the Lindsey lawsuit that "Fleetwood Mac" doesn't exist as a legal entity outside of each individual project/tour they have done. The McVie's/Fleetwood have ownership in the name, but there isn't a precise LLC that says these members are the current legal members of Fleetwood Mac etc.

The point being, he wasn't a "member" of Fleetwood Mac for the 2018 tour, but that's about it. It wouldn't be a legal conflict for Fleetwood Mac to promote this now.

I could be absolutely wrong about all of this, but I remember there being some surprise that they didn't have some kind of umbrella entity on paper.

Stevie has even said that herself, although she does not use the term “package deal.”

The story changed with the reunion, when they were do things like “Behind the Music”. If we’re to believe everything said around that time, Fleetwood Mac didn’t exist after the Inauguration and Christine made a solo album.

However, the account from Mick’s 1990 book and Keith’s 2011 interview perfectly align. That phone call was between both of them, not Lindsey or Stevie, and that call ended with Mick telling Keith to convince them -both of them- to join Fleetwood Mac.

Plus, to my knowledge, there was never an accounting that suggests Mick asked Lindsey to join without Stevie. Lindsey might have said he wouldn’t join without Stevie, but the offer was never actually for just him.

I think remixes or demos would distract from the album. I want to hear its crisp original sounds on CD. The way it was released. Keep the original album cover too. I want to pretend its 1973 all over again. The excitement is the original album is being issued in original form. Putting the gloss of 2025 on the album sort of ruins it for me. Some want a new album cover with a new Stevie? That makes no sense. I also dont want anything re-recorded. Please let me enjoy this the way it was released without the demands of what clever record companies do to older albums trying to make a buck.

I am curious. Does anyone here own an original Buckingham Nicks album? I know there are countless bootlegs but originals are rare. You can import the bootleg album from Japan easily. I imagine the collectors hate this reissue because it hurts the value of their own. For example, this original sealed cassette of Buckingham Nicks is for sale on Ebay for $100.00

Yes, I have an original. Bought it in the 70s pristine. Opens up with a photo of them on the inside standing (from the cover shoot, she is in her blouse) and it lists all the songs and their lyrics. She was listed as "Stevi" then.

I have an original. I bought it I think in 1983 at a Heck's store where I live in Southwestern Pa. They were kind of a Walmart type store. The had a record section and I was looking and low and behold there it was. I think I paid 10.00 for it. I was poor at the time, but I didn't care. I knew I had found something special. I still have it. It is worn and yellowed, but one of my prized possessions.

So, that fellow in that band you played me—would you see if that guy would like to join my band?” And I said, “Well, they’re going to come as a set. Because they’re very much into their own thing, and the only chance of getting them to drop that would be to bring them both on.” And he says, “Well, maybe that will work. Can you see if you can convince them to join my band?” -Keith Olsen, 2011

Yep. Mick was interested in a guitarist and inquired about the guitarist. It was Keith who told him, hey they're a duo and they won't split that up. So Mick said ok ask them both. It's not really that complicated and it was never a major conflict for Mick. He'd have taken Lindsey alone but if they came as a duo he was ok with that. People, including members of the band, (shocking!) like to make it more dramatic than it was.

Absolute nonsense.

More dramatic license from miss thang.

Lindsey worked as a studio and touring musician (he was on tour with the Everly Brothers when she wrote Landslide). He also for a time had a gig in a call center.

The reality is, if Lindsey had worked as a waiter and Stevie was in charge of producing and arranging their songs....well....they'd both still be waiting tables.

Him working on their songs was *working*. Sure it didn't pay the bills at that time, but it sure gave her the career she's had all these years so......

ETA: He was also the one who put all their songs together on his 4-track late at night in the coffee plant which got them the first deal. By her own accounts she sat there with him *crocheting* until he told her he needed her to put on her vocals.

ETA: And don't believe her account of having been a "cleaning lady" for their producer (Keith Olsen). They lived in his house rent free and she offered to clean as a form of payment. Per Keith, she wasn't much of a cleaning lady, she'd get her headscarf on and her bucket and mop and not do a very good job (despite her claims years later). She also put his car (his Mercedes?) in gear and left it and it went crashing down a hill into a house, so....yeah.

Also, the part where Mick says “Then I called [Fleetwood Mac’s business lawyer] Mickey Shapiro and said, "I met these guys and am asking them to be in the band” also suggests Christine needing to approve was also overly dramatized. If Christine’s approval factored in, wouldn’t Mick have called her, first? The reason to call the business manager first is to have him draw up contractual paperwork (the real primary reason for the meet up at the Mexican restaurant).

Fleetwood Mac was still in the middle of a lawsuit over who owned the name, so they needed to have the lineup settled before word spread about Bob. However, that’s not a very romantic story.

I think it's in the "Songbird" documentary, and I think it's Stevie who tells the story, but I've heard it a few times, Christine had veto power on Stevie, (2 ladies in a band, heaven forbid they don't get along) so if the "take them both" story is the truth and not "if you take me you have to take my girlfriend", does it hold, if Christine didn't like Stevie, they would have said no to Lindsey too?

If Chris had said no, one would imagine maybe Mick or whomever would have said something to Lindsey about hey would you join solo, he would have said no thanks, and S&L would have gone on and made their second album and FM would have looked for another guitarist.

By all accounts, of S&L, Stevie was far more amenable to joining FM, and had to sort of cajole or encourage or whatever Lindsey to consider it and why it could be good for them. (She has said years ago that they were already on the rocks in their romantic relationship, so personally I think having more space from Lindsey in the form of other musicians to work with in a band context was very appealing to her so she wasn't the one always in his crosshairs). I think she very much made it a point to be charming and friendly and all that with FM to ensure there were no issues with any of them, not just Chris. Now that I think about it, I don't recall anyone ever saying that they specifically said out loud to S&L that the dinner was sort of a trial to see how they all got along; I've always heard it presented as a convo that happened between the Brits beforehand. Maybe someone knows otherwise....

Again, take anything said after 1996 with a pound of salt. Parts of their story were exaggerated and others minimized (Billy who?). I remember a lot of us taking exception, especially “Behind the Music”.

I agree with you, I always thought it was a conversation amongst Mick, John and Christine. And yes, Stevie was all for joining FM and Lindsey wanted to focus on BN2.
