Maybe Stevie is going to re-record some of the demos (or thinks she is) so doesn't want to release them?!

It would not surprise me if they could only agree on the album as the release. Earlier, Lindsey had said that he thought that the album itself was too short for a CD release and that additional materials should be included, but the popularity of collectible, high quality vinyl, plus the digital release platform probably superseded that concern.

Any of the unreleased demos probably belong to each individual songwriter, and I can't see Stevie agreeing to include them on BN without demanding more $$$. Given how much she has relied on reviving old demos in recent years, she may still use them at some point, or at least want the possibility. And I can imagine both of them being unwilling to release the live shows unless they were happy with the sound quality -- given where they were in their careers, they didn't have the same level of sound production for the shows as they did even with earlier FM (where Mick would release anything that got some $$$). Whatever the reason, it seems 100% likely that they would disagree on everything other than the original album, and that's only because objectively, the original is what it is.

As much as the idea of them touring or doing any kind of joint activity to promote this release was in everyone's speculation, the truth is that they probably can't stand each other -- this was probably negotiated and executed by the management teams, including the negotiated PR rollout. They may be better off not doing any press around this other than prepared and negotiated statements, because neither of them can just say something decent and leave out the barbs against each other if asked live.

I'm glad this happened while they were both alive though. And if their relationship is as bitter and sniping as we have seen in the last 7 years (and longer), I hope they don't ruin it by doing what they usually do.

Can someone explain to me why so many of you jump to definitive conclusions? Just because the Rhino release only features the remastered songs from the 1973 release, then that subsequently means there will be no other promotion for the album? Sure that could be the case, but it makes no sense that you would stage social media and physical media promotion two months prior to the release, include the founding member of Fleetwood Mac in that promotion, and schedule 3 weeks off for Stevie's tour during the peak promotion period, and have no additional album release promotional activities.

All this original post refers to is the tracks on the remastered release. No one is wrong here and no one is right, but the assumptions that people jump to as conclusive are a bit much.

I for one think there will be additional promotion and there will be appearances. What shape those take, I don't know. But this is a money making opportunity, and in my opinion, Steve, Lindsey, Mick, and Irving are likely to want to do their best to maximize that potential.

Well...we've had 40+ years of foreplay regarding the eventual release of this album and we didn't even get the original version of Without You cleaned up. I can understand if there's a little bit of disappointment and skepticism if this is the entire enchilada. If that's the case, I'm shocked they spent the money for the billboard.

Stevie has already performed Crying In The Night, Lindsey has already done Stephanie. Crystal and Races Are Run could be done with just an acoustic guitar and minimal backing instruments. There's plenty of material they could do together live - but I'm not convinced it's going to happen.

Imagine Lindsey and Stevie on Marc Maron's podcast? - it would be crazy cool, but Stevie isn't about to leave her beach condo to hang out in somebody's garage. Can you imagine that trio of personalities!?

Did anybody notice in the description for this product it says Mick asked Lindsey to join the band, but Lindsey insisted he and Stevie were a package deal?

I guess Stevie’s people were okay with putting that out.

Shockingly, it seems like they may have had a "let's do this for the kids" moment of realization

I think remixes or demos would distract from the album. I want to hear its crisp original sounds on CD. The way it was released. Keep the original album cover too. I want to pretend its 1973 all over again. The excitement is the original album is being issued in original form. Putting the gloss of 2025 on the album sort of ruins it for me. Some want a new album cover with a new Stevie? That makes no sense. I also dont want anything re-recorded. Please let me enjoy this the way it was released without the demands of what clever record companies do to older albums trying to make a buck.
OTOH, at least include the single version of “Crying In The Night” with the slide guitar.

I am curious. Does anyone here own an original Buckingham Nicks album? I know there are countless bootlegs but originals are rare. You can import the bootleg album from Japan easily. I imagine the collectors hate this reissue because it hurts the value of their own. For example, this original sealed cassette of Buckingham Nicks is for sale on Ebay for $100.00
Three gatefold copies on vinyl, a cassette, and the 45 of CITN.

Well that story is so well known since at least 1997. VH1 Classic Albums: Rumours was the first time I saw Lindsey telling that, probably there are older interviews with the "package deal" phrase, so it would be absurd for her to object this time.

Heads up - It appears as if the hi-fi edition with the singles has now sold out.

I agree with you, nobody is right and nobody is wrong. But are you not also jumping to conclusions. What if there is no other promotion for the album? Stevie is on tour and maybe their only promotion were those cryptic tweets. Its not like they are instantly going on the Tonight Show next month or something.
Long term maybe something will happen where they perform again. But what IF its finally released and then nothing? Both Stevie and Lindsey sold the rights to their songs so I doubt they are doing this for the money.
I do agree, we are all just speculating. But I think some speculation went too far with new album covers, remixes, released singles, performances together, etc.
Its quite possible the album is released and that's that. I highly doubt their motivation for release was for money and they are looking to capitalize this for new fame and fortune.

The funny thing is if you read the recent interview with the Smithsonian, he actually doesn’t remember the sequence of events. That story evolved over the years that it kind of became the standard response. But Mick’s 1990 version and Keith’s 2011 version perfectly align. The offer was always for both.

I did not jump to any conclusions. I wrote above, "I think"and "in my opinion." No part of that is a conclusion or a definitive statement. Just my opinion. I interpreted much of what has been written to be definitive statements and I thought that was a bridge too far.

With this group of people, I always tend to believe money is a motivator. Maybe I am just jaded… Let's see what happens between now and then, and hey, at least we have something to talk about.

I don't buy that. They're just trying to stay in BIG MAMA'S graces.

Nah. Keith Olsen didn’t need to worry about Stevie’s graces in 2011. He had a pretty epic career by then.

“I told him I wanted Lindsey Buckingham to be the new guitarist in Fleetwood Mac, and what did he think? Olsen replied that Lindsey was part of a team, the other half of which was his girlfriend, Stevie Nicks. They had a band called Buckingham Nicks and were very much a pair. Keith said he didn't think Lindsey would be interested in joining Fleetwood Mac without Stevie. Without hesitating, I told him that I wanted them both. Then I called Mickey Shapiro and said, "I met these guys and am asking them to be in the band."” -Mick Fleetwood, 1990

“Then I got a call on New Year’s Eve, and Mick says, “I’ve had some bad news. Bob Welch just decided to leave the band. So, that fellow in that band you played me—would you see if that guy would like to join my band?” And I said, “Well, they’re going to come as a set. Because they’re very much into their own thing, and the only chance of getting them to drop that would be to bring them both on.” And he says, “Well, maybe that will work. Can you see if you can convince them to join my band?” -Keith Olsen, 2011
