can someone post a link to that reddit thread?

I went on there when this site was down, but there are so many FM and FM-related threads it would be hard to know which one folks from here are going to if we would even end up all going to the same one.

I did see some comments scattered across different threads there with people asking about the status of The Ledge. Maybe we designate one...

this was one thread..

https://www.reddit.com/r/FleetwoodMa...unt_suspended/

prob would be best if somebody from here just started one up if this happens again...? like 'anyone from the ledge, reconvene here' lol. unless we designate one before anything happens... i'm still not great w all this technology but i assume most of you guys know more than me and could get something going if need be.

Still frustrating the owner of this site doesn’t engage. I mean, you don’t have to be a fan. Fair enough, I get it…. it could just be a little side business. No interest in this band whatsoever. But still, periodically just post a little update. Say something. Anything.

Lis,

I am the person who bought it. I had it for 10 years. I sold it in 2017 because I needed the money. I sold it for $2000, 1/3 of what I bought it for, but I also relieved myself of the $3000 in annual web hosting fees. I was going through a hard time and I needed to do that.

At this time, I have control of the Ledge bulletin management. However, I have no control of the server. No access to that.

Also, I should say I did not sell it to the first person who came along. I waited and tried to find a fan. At that time wetcamelfood was still alive and he had put so much work in the discography. I had also added a decade of news to the second hand news and blue letter archive sections. I wanted that all preserved, but months passed and there were no buyers. So, I auctioned it.

Michele, we appreciate all the work you put into it. And yeah, 3k a year is a lot for a fan site.
Thank you.

Hi Homer,

I guess with just The Ledge and not all the other information that had been gathered on the site, the monthly cost would have been a lot less and digital, cloud forums are so much easier these days. But migrating a forum this old to a modern one would itself be hard.

But, as you said, I feel that this can't last and one day we will check in and it will be gone. I have been away, but when I saw the Instagram messages, I had to run back here.

I don't know much about what transferring it would entail, but I can't imagine it would be easy, especially given how old this format is.

I wonder IF there is a free platform that we could all join, and just sort of have it as a backup, in case this ever does completely end. Just a thought...

I mean, back in the day(2007), there were several new message boards that sprang from here, after a huge moderator implosion here. But I doubt if any of those are still around. Again, just a thought, but we'd all know that that's where we meet, after the apocalypse.

oh wow i feel stupid lol i had no idea it was you. i had been off the site for many years after the divorce and missed a lot of what happened here and who was running things etc. and i certainly understand $ issues as being a reason to have to sell. But let me say how much marty and I appreciate you keeping it going for as long as you did! i know it can be quite costly and time consuming. and yes i remember wetcamelfood and all his hard work also... many people have contributed so much to the site, and i get worried when i think about it just vanishing someday.

Thank you so much for everything!

so i was texting marty about this and this was his idea--

"If a data backup was possible, it could likely get imported into a new version of the bulletin board system. Could be quite a bit of work though as it’s so old. I’m not volunteering!!!There was some modification of code but very little. The layout used the standard V bulletin customization features. The discography script was extremely modified. Saving the Q&A’s would be trivial…just save each page."

i don't understand any of that lol but i figured i'd put it here in case any industrious young folk have the time or equipment or inclination to back any of this up...

Neat. Does this mean you can't wield your power around and arbitrarily ban people anymore?

Message boards are slowly dying all over the place. I am on 2 other message boards and they have been arounds since the late 90s. The traffic there is way slower than it used to be even 5 years ago.
Message boards were created at the dawn of the internet. It was exciting. But now people use Facebook and other means for social content. I suppose we are all dinosaurs here. But I insist I am the youngest one

Probably, but it's me that Rod sings to...

May the good Lord be with you down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness surround you when you're far from home
And may you grow to be proud, dignified and true
And do unto others as you'd have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you'll always stay
Forever young (forever young)...

I remember the bulletin board systems that existed first. I used to post on one for The X-Files. I think there was one for Fleetwood Mac that some of the people here were on , before The Ledge. Communicating with other fans was very exciting.

The first board I participated on was on Prodigy. Prodigy was my first introduction to the internet.

I remember when there used to be chat rooms on this board.
