At this point she's just looking at how far Taylor Swift (whom I like) has gotten making a career of writing about her relationships and fans pretty much knowing whom they're about. Taylor may in fact have been inspired as a baby writer by people like Stevie who wrote about their lives, but now it's come full circle... Stevie always talked about how her songs were coded, or that she would say her songs were about real events but she wrote about them in an indirect way and all that. Times have changed, and she has to have noticed how much success Taylor has had (and so far no ex boyfriend of Taylor's has sued her) and now Stevie has decided to really lean into it. In the past there were obvious songs about Lindsey on Rumours but as she moved into different relationships over the years she was more vague.

[QUOTE=reebokandlace;1300274]It hurts my brain to listen to her rambling.

Here is how I picture the scenario of Stevie sitting in this hotel room for 92 days…. I imagine as the fires were threatening her home- she had Karen (and crew) pack the SUV with every journal- every tape- every page of her writing in case the house did burn and took all this stuff to her hotel. These boxes and trunks sat in this hotel suite and Stevie (at some point of staring at this stack) took the time to sit down and sift through them for the first time since Dave Stewart went through them to try to put together a new album. I am glad to hear she has a few songs to put on this new album. I am grateful for any new music she puts out; especially if it comes from her old journals. Anything circa 1980s - 90s would be great.

Oh, no. Now there'll be a new idea for a lyric: "staring at the stack." Sigh.

Here we go with Prince again. We know for a fact that Prince told his studio engineer to keep Stevie away from him. Later he does come into the studio per her request to finish Stand Back and leaves. She meets him again on the Wild Heart tour where she crashes on his kitchen floor and the next day he drives her to the airport. Stevie says he was not into her drugs. They meet again during the Purple Rain premier but he is annoyed at Stevie for leaving early. Stevie says in her 1994 LA radio interview that Prince refuses to talk to her but she does not know why.

Someone please tell us. How were they ever friends? Maybe they hung out without drama watching the Stand Back world premier on MTV at her house? He even declined her gift she wanted to give him during the Purple Rain party.
I dont get how she keeps saying they were friends. She is saying that When Doves Cry was inspired by Edge of 17? Was it not her that ripped him off and put doves crying at the end of Edge of 17 live in concert? When Doves cry is about Prince's relationship relating to his parents, no?

The bottom line is she’s not easy to work with and has never made friends with other musicians she can collaborate with. There’s a short list of folks who have been able to work with her on a limited basis. Even Dave Stewart wound up being a once and done. She’s 76, pretty much alone and has spent the better part of the last 15 years defining herself by her past. Her exaggerated stories about Prince is all she’s got at this point. She’s not making headlines with her recording output.

From Wikipedia:
"When Doves Cry" is a song by American musician Prince, and the lead single from his sixth studio album Purple Rain. According to the DVD commentary of the film Purple Rain (1984), Prince was asked by director Albert Magnoli to write a song to match the theme of a particular segment of the film that involved Prince's character The Kid's intermingled parental difficulties with his father Francis L. (Clarence Williams III) and mother (Olga Karlatos) and a love affair with Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero). The next morning, Prince had composed two songs, one of which was "When Doves Cry". According to Prince's biographer Per Nilsen, the song was inspired by his relationship with Vanity 6 member Susan Moonsie.

I think the Wikipedia page needs amended: "Song was inspired by and co-written by Stevie Nicks. After turning down Purple Rain because it was not good enough, Stevie gave Prince a rough draft of When Doves Cry. Prince played a track but it was Stevie's idea to remove the bass from the track. Stevie Nicks to this day reminds her audiences her contributions to the song during the end of Edge of 17 singing "I know what it sounds like when doves cry." It was the only lyric that Prince removed from the song which irked Stevie so she put it in her solo set. Prince offered royalties to Stevie for the song which she rejected and said "now we are even since you played on Stand Back."

Well, there’s Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Don Henley, Vanessa Carlton, Sheryl Crow, Kenny Loggins… and from all reports she got along just fine with Dave Stewart. So who didn’t she get along with? Prince? I’m genuinely sincere when I ask who you’re referring to- I like gossip just as much as the next person!

My point was, appearances and touring aside - she's worked with all of those people once or twice at the most.

Beyond Jimmy working on 2.5 albums between 80-85, she hasn't had a lasting working relationship with a single producer in the subsequent 35+ years working in the industry. People who genuinely enjoy collaborating do not have this track record.

And yes, I'm aware that Mike Campbell has given her and written many, many tracks over the years - I'm speaking to folks she's worked with on specific projects, in a large capacity.

You bring up a really good point that does not get mentioned much. Stevie does not get along with her early and primary producer Lindsey Buckingham. Her first solo producer walked away from her third solo album in the f**king middle of the project. She had bad blood with Rubert Hine after OSOTM. Stevie hated Glyn Johns and blamed him for the Street Angel fiasco. My hunch is that he questioned her work ethic.
Rebound to the Mac and we get the infamous "would you say that to Bob Dylan" quote during SYW and production process. She also was not comfortable working on Tango at Lindsey's house.

Ironically, Lindsey probably holds the record for being the producer thats worked with her the most.

Folks also forget that there was a good ten year period after TISL in which Sheryl Crow was hardly ever mentioned again. It wasn't until the Christine replacement fiasco in '09/'10 and the joint appearance on Oprah's final show week in 2011/12 where they seemed friendly again.

All of this is why I still take issue with the term "prolific" so often used to describe her in the press. She had 4 solo albums in the 80s, and 1 actual studio album in the 90s of new material. There are a lot of singer-songwriters that are truly prolific and their output is easily doubled compared to Stevie.

After TISL and Sheryl’s 2002 album C’mon C’mon, something was up with Stevie and Sheryl. I wondered if it was Stevie not liking Lance Armstrong.
Then after IYD, Stevie made Waddy a co-producer on 24 Karat Gold. I think Stevie was mad with Dave for writing about their sexual relationship in the 80s.
For her Covid releases, she used Greg Kurstin as a producer, and for The Lighthouse she had Dave Cobb and Sheryl Crow as producers. This after saying “I’ll never do an album without Dave Stewart.”

We know the reason Fleetwood Mac hasn’t released an album since 2003 is Stevie. And that includes the SYW lineup, the OWTS lineup, and the 2018-2019 lineup. She didn’t want to make an album with any FM lineup.

This is as good a place as any, to drop this tidbit.

So my friend in Nashville, Dennis, told me today that he used to work security in Chicago(where he's originally from), back in the early 80's. He was talking about really bad experiences.... he said he led Stevie to the stage, in the early 80's, and that she smelled absolutely disgusting. I said, "gassy?" He said, "no, complete body odor! It was awful!"

Maybe it was her stage clothes? Still....

yep... Sheryl went from being her bestest friend ever to falling off the planet....

I do recall that on Oprah (I'm sure people can find the clip somewhere) both Stevie and Sheryl were on and Sheryl said that when she (Sheryl) was talking about having kids (she adopted I think) and had her boys that Stevie had warned her that she would never get her career back if she left to have kids (or something very much along those lines that kids would crash her career) and Stevie FREAKED OUT in the moment and was like trying to cut her off "I did NOT!" "I didn't say that!!!" and if you watch it Sheryl kind of like smiles this sly smile and almost sort of laughs at Stevie's reaction. It was very curious... I mean I am totally NOT surprised at all that Stevie would not want that comment to come out and that she would lie about having said it because she's so super conscious of her image and wanting people to love her and all that and she clearly knows that would not be a well-received thing by the public.... And at the same time you know she really probably believes that (maybe it's her way of rationalizing not having kids herself over the years or whatever who knows) and I can TOTALLY see her doing her thing of being big mama who knows it all doling out advice to the younger crowd like she's Buddha or something and telling Sheryl that having kids will ruin her career....

Stevie still thinks it's the 70s when women DID have to choose between career and family. Now there's tons of women in music who have had kids and have stepped away from their careers for a time (and not even always because of kids, just because they needed a break) like Celine Dion, Adele, Sheryl, Mariah, actresses like Cameron Diaz who is slowly coming back, Jennifer Lawrence, etc etc. Plus Stevie likes to think that she knows everything that applies to everyone rather than realizing that just because HER life went a certain way and SHE made certain choices that doesn't necessarily mean anything about anyone else's life.

And oh btw, I would ask her if stepping away from a career or not touring for awhile or whatever to have kids is really any different or frankly if it's not better than losing your career for a number of years due to drug addiction and rehab....??
