Default Latest Buckingham Nicks LP questions

I just saw on my FB feed an article questioning why Buckingham Nicks has never been released on CD. There were quotes from Lindsey from (I think) 2009 where he basically said he and Stevie want it released, and that they own the rights, but so does a third person, one of Stevie’s managers, and she has the masters so she would have to sign off on it. Then there is a quote from Stevie in 2013 where she said yeah, for some reason we just can’t seem to agree on when to rerelease it.

What I find interesting is that Lindsey referred to the third person by female pronoun. I assumed it was Keith Olson, who produced the album, but he’s a male.

The second thing I’m curious about is whether Lindsey and Stevie even own the rights anymore, since they both sold their music catalogue 4 years back. Would that impact whether they could release BN now?

To this day, whether they re release it or not, I would tell those two (or three if you include that manager) the last line Rhett said to Scarlett in the movie.

Well I must admit that I say that not only because I'm tired of the endless soap opera those two star in, but because a few years ago I downloaded the entire album in very good quality.

I'd have to go back and look up the Lindsey quote because I want to say that he didn't claim that other person OWNED rights to the masters, but that they were the ones who had physical possession of it

A little information, some theories, and even predictions on this topic were already mentioned in this thread. Three years later, uncertainty continues.

You could very well be right- I tried to find that post and couldn’t, unfortunately.

I have the bootleg CD, and anyone can get the album if they want, but an official release would be nice, especially if it was cleaned up. It’s really too bad they never got their stuff together long enough to rerelease it. Or at least put her songs on one of her albums and his songs on one of his albums. Apparently Stevie was allowed to put Long Distance Winner on her Enchanted box set.

I believe that, if ANOTHER entity other than Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham owned the rights to the Polydor Buckingham Nicks album - the album would be re-released almost immediately for a cash grab.

I really question how many copies it would sell. 10k?

Only diehard fans would buy it, and so many of those people are 100 now, and no longer buy music, that I doubt it's worth it.

I doubt it will ever be released. Its missed so many golden opportunities for a stellar release launch. It just missed its 50th anniversary. Imagine it being released on the heals of The Dance or during SYW. Stevie and Lindsey had 15 years of Fleetwood Mac to themselves to release it and promote it in concert. It always puzzled me when Chris's absence was so striking they did not double down on themselves within the band. Stevie released a song on her 1998 Enchanted release. If she can release 1 song why not release the entire album. I agree with Watch Chain if another entity owned it, it definitely would have been released. The train left the station so many times that its become a moot point now. Stevie has been saying since the 1980s she wanted it released. Now I doubt she really wants to release it because it would mean some sort of agreement with Lindsey and the record company would want them to promote it. Stevie has no interest in meeting or doing anything Lindsey related which I think it will never be released.

Sad, but true.
