I actually don't think most of the band's solo songs sound very much like Fleetwood Mac except a few. I hated a review of Christine's solo album that said something like "why go solo if you are going to make music that sounds just like Fleetwood Mac." IMHO her solo album sounds nothing like Fleetwood Mac. The singing does for sure and plants the seeds its Fleetwood Mac but that's about it.
However I think Trouble by Lindsey could fit perfectly on Mirage. Not only does it have Mick on drums but the song sounds like the Mirage music box. IMHO it would fit flawlessly on Mirage. I think the catchy singing of Got A Hold On Me could pass for Fleetwood Mac but not the music. Can we remove Oh Diane and put Trouble on Mirage?

Christine's solo songs sounded like FM, because CHRISTINE MOTHER FUKCING McVIE WAS FLEETWOOD MAC.

I want you back by Mick could be a Tusk song
With Lindsey and Mick it has a Tusk quirkiness about it

Among Stevie’s stuff, I always thought “Sleeping Angel” sounded most Mac-ish. Not coincidentally, it’s also probably my favorite of her solo songs!
Lindsey: “Countdown” and “Down on Rodeo” (HOW on earth was that not on SYW), also two of my very faves of his.

There has always been a very fine line between Lindsey’s solo songs and his Mac songs. Mostly because he produces both his solo albums and the Mac. I agree Trouble could have fit on Mirage. I like Oh Diane but Trouble does have more of a Mac vibe. I Want You Back most definitely could have been on Tusk. Stevie’s solo production is all over the place. I agree Sleeping Angel is very Macish. I think Rooms on Fire also would have worked well on Tango. As far Christine songs many could have been Mac songs(especially her ballads) Her up tempo solo songs lack Lindsey’s magic.

When I read the title I immediately thought of Trouble. But though L&O sounds a bit like a post Tusk Mac album, OOTC is the most Mac album I've found from Lindsey.
Who's Dreaming This Dream? sounds a bit like FM. Maybe because Lindsey is there? ![]() With Richard, Ken and Lindsey's special touch, Leather and Lace could be a perfect Mac song. Without Don of course.

It really does. There are so many tracks on ITM that could have used some Lindsey. |

True. I remember those times when we imagined the In The Meantime Say You Will album.

Very few Stevie songs sound like FM songs because she has used elaborate production teams and a distinct backing band to record songs. Or should I say: she writes skeletal demos, barely songs at all, and then submits them to to producers and musicians to be fleshed out. Lindsey has had such a strong hand in shaping her songs that when he isn’t used on her solo stuff, another person (or team of people) bring her songs to completion. To my way of thinking, her most FM-sounding songs are:
Kind of Woman How Still My Love Sable on Blonde (with Mick) Annabelle Lee …. From Law and Order onward, it’s hard to say if Lindsey’s solo stuff differs from FM or if his FM material has been influenced by his solo work. From Tango onward, I wonder if the question is even worth asking. That said, there’s usually one or two songs per solo album that are deliberately molded to sound like a FM-type song—or some ersatz idea of what a Lindsey FM song is. …. Because she builds solid, well-crafted tunes that know what they are before they are arranged, many of Christine’s solo songs sound like FM songs—or FM songs wearing different (production) outfits. The verses on Got a Hold on Me are as FM as anything she’s ever written, but the ultra glossy production and the chorus aren’t. The Challenge is FM without the quirky, imaginative touches to carry the easy-listening experience from pleasing, well-executed soft rock to iconic pop. Love Will Show us How is FM but edgier, more guitar-driven in mid-period Beatles style but without the ecstatic harmonies that lift songs like Love in Store to the heavens. One in a Million features Christine’s trademark blues—but heavier and more thrilling than anything I think the group could have done with it. The solo Christine tunes that sound exactly like (or very close to) FM songs are: Smile I Live For (Lindsey present) Friend You Are Giving it Back (the most FM sounding song of the 2000s—and more FM than anything on Say You Will) Last edited by aleuzzi; 12-29-2024 at 08:18 PM.. |

Speaking of Sable on Blonde, I have a vague memory of an interview in 1983 promoting Wild Heart where she said someone accused her of ripping off Dreams or the song sounding too much like Dreams. She said she did not care.
Personally I like the second version of Sable on Blonde better from the Deluxe release of Wild Heart (Sorry Mick). I never would have thought too much about it but once I read it, I can hear what someone was saying. My theory it that was the reason for the heavy background vocal overdubs in the beginning. Imagine if they were removed, it does have a Dreams like feel and beat.

"Wait For You" by LB. I can hear where and how Stevie's vocal should go. (Also think this was the biggest glaring omission from LB's Solo Anthology.)

Sentimental Lady (French Kiss) sounds like it could be a FM song (rumours era). Another BuckVie delight.
