New authorised Apple Films documentary on the way

It looks like there's a new, authorised Apple Films doc on the way, to be directed by Frank Marshall:

'Fleetwood Mac is finally getting the documentary treatment thanks to Frank Marshall.

Marshall, who was behind music docs The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart and The Beach Boys, will direct what is being described by distributor Apple as the first fully authorized doc on the band.

Tuesday’s announcement says the untitled doc will see Fleetwood Mac “share their extraordinary story in their own words,” adding that the film will feature never-before-seen footage, exclusive new interviews, and archival interviews of the late Christine McVie. (McVie died in 2022. She was 79.)

Fleetwood Mac — made up of members Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, John McVie, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham — is one of the world’s best selling bands, known for albums like Tusk and Rumours and tracks like “Rhiannon” and “Landslide.” The band also became synonymous with in-fighting, with the relationship drama of the bandmembers bleeding over into their music.

“I am fascinated by how this incredible story of enormous musical achievement came about. Fleetwood Mac somehow managed to merge their often chaotic and almost operatic personal lives into their own tale in real time, which then became legend. This will be a film about the music and the people who created it,” said Marshall.

Marshall will also produce through The Kennedy/Marshall Company with White Horse Pictures’ Nicholas Ferrall (The Beatles: Eight Days A Week) and Jeanne Elfant Festa (The Apollo), and Kennedy/Marshall’s Aly Parker. White Horse’s Cassidy Hartmann executive produces with Kennedy/Marshall’s Tony Rosenthal. Diamond Doc’s Mark Monroe serves as writer and executive producer.

As for Apple, the Fleetwood Mac doc joins a slew of other talent focused features, like Selena Gomez’s My Mind & Me, Michael J. Fox’s Still, and Steve Martin’s two-part doc Steve!.'

This must be what was driving all of the new social accounts for the band that had everyone speculating. Per usual, lots of hype for a sh*t sandwich.

This has been done to death. There are so many other things that could be released in an expanded form that would be so much more interesting. The Tom Petty camp just dusted off the Heartbreakers Beach Party film from 1982.

How about the Tusk Doc or the entire shows they filmed in St Louis for the Tusk Doc?

Yet another career overview doc of Fleetwood Mac...no thanks.

Can't wait for the clips of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn sprinkled in because you know, do 1 tour and Mick officially makes you equals with the rest of the band who have been there 40 years. Unless you're the unlucky Bob Welch who contributed more than Mike or Neil combined, then you get screwed out of the whole enchilada.

Should we start a bingo card of all the basic information they will get completely inaccurate? Maybe, just maybe...one day somebody will actually tell the other side of the story about Tango. I'm sure we'll get the usual bit about how the rest of the band was just dandy and then Lindsey quit. Rehab? What rehab? Mick such a drunk he had to put a camper on Lindsey's driveway? Lindsey and Christine left on the lurch to get the project over the finish line for an entire year? Nope we'll sweep all of that under the rug, yet again.

I wish we could get a more definitive view of everything from 1968-1974 and 1988-1996. There are so many better and more interesting stories to tell that we know but the general public doesn't.

I agree, though I would include 1997-2018. I mean, beyond SYW, I'd like to know about the tours of this century, not videoclips but interviews about them.

Well, I'll be watching. It will be interesting to see how this is framed, especially with so much water under the bridge, and now that the group is over. Let's face it, this band has always been about conflict - well, since those two arrived on the scene, anyway. It could be like watching a bunch of old soldiers who managed to drag themselves through the wars...
