They also did Silver Springs. I have this concert or most of it on my computer somewhere.

This is the concert they said later they bombed because they did too much new material and no one knew any of the songs. Can you imagine!?

I know. I almost wrote in my original post "when Fleetwood Mac played new music."
However the band also had the same reaction when promoting Rumours on the Rumours tour. After the first leg, they scaled back some new songs.
Fleetwood Mac has odd "fans." I cant imagine this with other bands like the Stones or The Eagles. I dont think if the Eagles did a bunch of new songs of Hotel California in 1976 that the fans would not go for it.
The ultimate slap in the face is from the 1980 Live album when Chris tells the audience they have not played anything from Tusk yet and they would like to try some of them out tonight. This is the first track from side one and its called Over and Over. The audience is dead silent and you could hear a pin drop.
Those Mac fans are an odd bunch

This “Gold Dust Woman” sounds rad.

I think that Stevie’s claim that new songs went over like a lead balloon is bogus. Either it didn’t happen or it was a mild, harmless response to something or other she may or may not fully remember.

It’s true they dropped “Don’t Stop” and “Silver Springs” from the latter half of the 1977 tour — for some reason we don’t really know** — but the bulk of Rumours was played for the majority of that tour (and the following tour in 1978):
  • Second Hand News
  • Dreams
  • Never Going Back Again
  • Go Your Own Way
  • Songbird
  • The Chain
  • You Make Loving Fun
  • Oh Daddy
  • Gold Dust Woman

The older, bonkier Stevie started saying that the material was not warmly welcomed at first, and her comments came out of the blue. She seemed to be trying to support her decision not to play much new material on tour (luckily, she played lots of new material anyway).

**When they first went out on the road in 1977, the white album was still a monumental hit. People probably wanted to hear those songs. The band wanted to drop some of those earlier songs to make room for the new album. So a little resistance at first is totally understandable.
