This is an interesting assessment. I have always wondered what Modern Records was thinking when they released "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You" as the 3rd single from Rock a Little.

There is absolutely no way that radio would play that song. It was dead on arrival.

This began the era of the record company urging Stevie to record songs by outside writers like Holly Knight, Billy Steinberg, Tom Kelly and Diane Warren. The Wilson sisters in Heart were enjoying a huge comeback during this era - unfortunately, Heart had to record "hit" songs by the outside writers listed above to make this happen. The #1 single "These Dreams" was pitched to Stevie first. What if that had been the third single from Rock a Little? Would we have a different story?
