What year was Blue Letter released by another band?

It was written by Richard and Michael Curtis, who happened to be recording in the same studio as Fleetwood Mac. The band heard the song and decided to include on the White Album.

I wouldn't have wanted to hear these songs but those three covers could've been Lay It All Down, The Green Manalishi, and Jewel-Eyed Judy. I would've wanted Crystal, Angel (Stevie), and Straight Back, but that wouldn't have been fair. |

They apparently released it in 1976. Here's a link to the audio:

That’s pretzel logic spin. Those songs were from works that were initially recorded external from Fleetwood Mac. There is no differentiation.

Doesn’t matter. They were recording their album at Sound City. Lindsey and Stevie heard it and Lindsey reworked it for Buckingham Nicks/Fleetwood Mac. It wasn’t being shopped around.

Also, as you've said, the 2018 Tour was a 50th Anniversary Tour. Crowded House, Split Enz, and Tom Petty songs had no relevance in a setlist presenting the 50 Years of Fleetwood Mac's recordings. |

Blue Letter is not a Fleetwood Mac song?

Fleetwood Mac has been doing that since Christine joined the band. When Mick did that interview in 2017, he said he’s always felt Lindsey and Stevie should be doing a Buckingham Nicks som and Christine a blues song, so even with it being Fleetwood Mac’s 50th Anniversary, it was never etched in stone that that’s all they were going to be playing. Fleetwood Mac has never been that rigid.

It’s a song in their body of work, but it’s a Curtis Bros. song.

Is Stop Draggin' My Heart Around a song in Stevie's body of work, but it's a Tom Petty song?

And at the end of the day, Christine is friggin dead and the band is done! That is how it ended. With a cobbled together set of players who have no connection to the band’s DNA doing covers of a guy who was in the band EARLIER THAT YEAR and bringing in their own songs to fill out a set. And for many, me included, this is why I hated this from day 1. I had a bad feeling, at their ages, that something would happen that would ever prevent that true final reconvening. Admittedly my money was on the other McVie initially. And then Lindsey. I didn’t think it would be Chris but here we are. So I’m glad people enjoyed hearing Stevie sing BMW, I Got You, Neil Finn singing GYOW, and of course, the two poignant moments of the show - Don’t Dream It’s Over and Free Fallin’. For me, it forever tarnished the band and their legacy and prevented any sort of proper ending. This band and the music is the soundtrack to so many of our lives. This isn’t about Lindsey either - I’m a FM fan first and foremost and long have said that the five of them needed each other and have always been 10x better together than their best solo work. |
