I didn’t know Stevie ever opened for Aerosmith once. Interesting. And the Super Bowl pregame show you mentioned, I never knew about that either. That really surprises me! Do you remember what she performed for that, and who else performed?
$tevie could get a PhD from Dolly University. I'm not even much of a Dolly fan, but she does it right.
Never stops creating.
She interacts with the public, and is a real person.
She's NOT a complete narcissist.
Selflessly donates her time and money to charities.
Can still sing.

She the antithesis of $tevie.

Henley loves Dolly.

I love watching video of Dolly playing Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, which Stevie hasn't done. She's played British Festivals but as opening act for Tom and Rod.
Dolly played the Legend Slot at Glasto.

And yet she never aborted his baby.

Dolly isn't afraid to take chances. To experiment. $tevie is afraid to even play a song that the masses don't know verbatim.

I always thought it was weird that Fleetwood Mac doesn't play "Werewolves of London."

Another difference. Dolly removes her name from nominations to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I had the pleasure of seeing Dolly Parton back in, I don’t know, maybe 2017? Anyway, she put on a great show and it was over 2 hours- she even had a 15 minute intermission! But like Stevie, Christine, and every other performer that started out in the 1970s (or earlier), Dolly’s voice isn’t as good as it used to be, and she did that whisper/singing thing a LOT. But we didn’t care because it was Dolly mother-effing Parton! Now I remember, it was almost definitely 2017 because she even mentioned the turmoil that was going on with Trump as President, but in such a way as to make it non-political! Not an easy feat. She even commented that by using a drum machine in her band instead of a drummer, she was saving $70,000!

I would encourage anyone who’s ever considered seeing Dolly live to do it.

I am not a fan of her music but I do love her. I thought she was incredible in 9 to 5 especially since she was not an actress. That role could have backfired on her. She was so genuine and natural. I also remember back in the days (early 80s) when HBO was big on concerts. She did an HBO concert recorded in London and it was very entertaining. She as funny on stage telling stories, etc. She also donated a bunch of money for research to develop the Covid vaccine and was one of the first to get it to demonstrate to the public. I dont think there is anyone on earth that has anything bad to say about Dolly. She is pure love.

I am right there with you with everything you just said. She is a remarkable woman and I am so glad I saw her when I did. I bought her greatest hits cd when I knew I was seeing her live, and was amazed at how many songs I recognized but either forgotten about or never knew she sang in the first place. She is an incredible songwriter, too. She has a song called the Secondhand Store or something like that, and it basically compares how having an affair with a married man made her feel secondhand- it’s a very clever song. She also has some surprisingly dark themes in her lyrics, but counters that with bouncy, catchy music. And ditto your comments about 9 to 5, that could have gone so wrong but it went so right.

I'm glad we've mentioned Dolly as she is what I really had hoped Stevie would be at this stage. Dolly has had, and still has, an extraordinary career built largely on her humanity and her treasure trove of great songwriting. She essentially is the Betty White of the music business, and it is almost impossible to say anything negative about her. Stevie on the other hand, even her biggest fans here, guys like me who thought she could do no wrong and felt sorry for her when she screwed up, have so much to criticize it almost drowns out her amazing achievements during the '73-'83 creative period. Since then, beautiful songs have been few and far between, she has all but abandoned creativity and passed on an opportunity 25 years ago heck, even while making In Your Dreams, to become the Dolly Parton of rock. Instead, she has become more like Baby Jane Hudson, a self parody, relying on decades old achievements to carry her. Too bad Tom Petty didn't give her an intervention in 1998 when she shone so very brightly off the heals of the Dance and into her wonderful Enchanted period. Since then, its been more than

I've never met her, but I have several friends in Nashville who have. They say she's exactly what you see on TV. There's no "bitch behind the scenes". She's as open and friendly as what we see on the media.

Off topic, but BW mentioned her saving 70K, by using a drum machine. Reminds me of a funny story I heard about Canya F*cker(Tanya Tucker) a couple weeks ago. (back story - she's a known HO, thus the name change). So anyway, she offered a bass player, "I'll pay you 50K for this tour, or I'll pay you 40K for this tour, and you can f*ck me any time you want". He said, "I'll take the 50K!" I love living in Nashville, and hanging out with all the touring musicians....that's where you get the behind the scenes stories!

It's really a true story. She's apparently a full blown sex addict. I've known two guys that have played in her band. Also a complete coke head. My friend's wife was going to leave him, if he couldn't get off the blow. He had to quit Tanya's band. Said that was the ONLY way to get off the blow, because it's a constant thing in that circle.

dear lord that sounds like what some of Stevie's touring musicians have said.

Even Benmont once said, "I never knew there was that much coke in the world" until he worked with her (or something very close to that)

here it is:

In Warren Zanes’ 2015 book Petty: The Biography, keyboardist Tench offered another reason behind the appearance of “Make It Better": "The biggest picture there was we were all on a lot of coke. On the Long After Dark tour, I discovered how much cocaine there was in the world. And then I came home and went straight on tour with Stevie Nicks and, boy, did I discover how much cocaine there was in the world."
