She always went on about he was discouraging of it in the early years with dismissive comments (Stop Draggin’ My Career Around was his name for her first hit) and how the whole band did not acknowledge Bella Donna when she returned for Mirage. He didn't have any part of her solo career at all until Twisted, after she had already had FIVE solo albums in the can and her most successful days were over.
Not saying it was right to not thank him, I would have since he was the entire reason she was out in the music world with Buckingham Nicks, but I don't see how its necessary in this context. She wouldn't have thanked Mick, John, and Christine either for the same reasons: they put her in the position to ascertain a solo career but had no part or encouragement of building it. Those songs were her songs, those relationships with Iovine and the Heartbreakers were built by her alone, and (in her view) she ended up being a successful solo artist in SPITE of Fleetwood Mac, not necessarily because of it.
If anything it might be in worse taste if she DID thank him. I can't imagine how great it would sound if she acknowledged his immense impact on her AFTER getting him booted from the band.
I'm back and forth on the issue, and agree that she owes a lot of what she became to Lindsey Buckingham, but the solo career isn't really part of that.

I agree, it wasn’t necessary to “thank” Fleetwood Mac. The group was mentioned in the context of the role that they played in her solo career. It was a great speech in typical Stevie style. She looked and sounded good and I’m happy for her.
