Lightbulb DOWNLOADING MP3s from Websites Weekly

I know a bunch of us download series of songs at least weekly from sites and occasionally might miss a week and then not have the complete concert or whatever. I hate writing the webmaster/mistress asking them to send (what a pain in the a*s to be) and I hate starting a post here just to get a few songs (although I am not above it and have done it !).
So I was thinking we should start an e-mail list that everyone participating would have. If you miss some downloads, send an e-mail to the list. Someone will inevitably have what you want and would 1) send a response saying they will send the songs (and do this by hitting the "reply to all" tab so everyone else knows not to send) then send the songs attached to another e-mail.
I would be willing to sort of manage this and see if it worked if anyone's interested. Also, anybody in the group who wanted could send a list of all of their complete concerts, bootlegs, etc. to the rest of the group. Or maybe I could collect them from whoever wanted to do that and list them all somewhere so we could see collectively what all we have. Then you might see that someone has the complete Mac show from Australia 04/01/80, the one that you've had for forever but was missing songs 13-16. Or, we could just make a big "wish list":a list of what each person is missing or hardcore looking for. If you have those songs you could send to them.
I know there are lots of sites/pages with people who do trading, but they always intimidate me (what could I have that some smarty-pants-who-is-smarter-than-me-and-can-make-their-own-website would want?). Also, they are always trading cd's, videos etc which I dont have to trade. Also, I would probably accidentally do something stupid and end up with my headshot and home address smeared all over their bad traders list! I want to just focus on mp3s, especially those from current download sites. And with all of us doing this as a collective or co-op or whatever, we'd have access to a lot of music that could really beef up our collections. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Ricoh
p.s. FYI on a couple sites: http://www.fleetwoodmac.de.vu/ is a great site to see an overview of what songs are currently posted at all the sites (at least all the sites I knew about and one or two that I didn't) and www.streamload.com is a site where you can get storage (free for the first month!) if you don't have room or need to transfer songs from one computer to another and don't have an easy way like an exterior harddrive (?) or whatever. You just upload songs to that site and the download wherever you want. I had downloaded a ton of songs at work because of high speed computer at work/slow speed at home. But when I got fired (OUCH!!![and not for downloading songs either!]) I wanted to get as much as possible home so I opened up 3 accounts in different names to do the transfer and then cancelled before the free month was up. And oh yeah, I'm not as shifty as I sound, really!
and if you don't have a lot of room for storage

Sorry for the longwinded thread-starter! And apparently something went haywire with that last sentence and all those message icons at the bottom?!? Just insert them in your mind wherever they make sense.
P.S. And if I keep responding to my own thread (even if noone else does) will it still look popular and stay at the top of the threads? hehe...Ricoh

Thanks for bumping it Richov.

But people who miss out on weekly mp3s should go to www.fleetwoodmac.de.vu because they re-post them there for a while. Great site!

Default Great Ideas Man

Hey Ricoh,

You have some good ideas... I'm really sorry to hear about your job. Grin and bear it, and it'll get better!

Oh, and that IS pretty shifty, bud. I won't tell Streamload if you don't tell Yahoo mail, 'k?

For anyone who wants to post songs for sharing:

The site www.fleebo.com offers 50 mb of webspace per account with unlimited bandwidth. ALL FOR FREE!

Once in a while the site may go down, but usually it works really well. It is very easy to upload songs. I have several accounts for my download page "All the King's Horses".

I took a look at Fleebo's terms of service out of curiosity, and here's what it says in regards to bandwidth, etc:

"The aggregate bandwidth a Member is allowed as a free member is 600 MB per month, or 20 MB per day. If the Member exceeds that amount he/she will be given a notice to either upgrade to a paid account if that option is available at such a time, or be notified that the Member's site will be taken down for bandwidth over-usage.

The maximum per-file size is 900,000 Bytes. If you upload any file(s) larger than this limit, the file will be deleted and your account can face termination.

We do NOT notify prior to terminating an account. Also, if your account gets terminated, signing up again will be grounds for another termination.

Your web site must be used primarily for the display of HTML pages, and the total amount of data transferred from your web site space may not exceed one megabyte for every two html page views. All use of web site space shall be subject to all the terms and conditions set forth herein. Fleebo Hosting retains the authority to restrict your website as to file types and size, and to restrict transfer rates or amounts."

I was a little suspicious about the "free unlimited bandwidth" they were claiming to offer because there's usually always a catch.

Ok Ok-have I been seriously knocked down here or do I still have a good idea I mean, does fleetwoodmac.de.vu repost every song from every one of those sites (I just recently stumbled upon that site so I don't know-it didn't look like it did though).
And then there's the idea of being able to easily have access to all sorts of concerts, bootlegs etc easily from looking at everyone's combined lists
(Can you tell who wants to rebuild their "lost " download collection quickly?
Clue: the same person who recently discovered how to insert "smilies" )

*Ricoh*
As for you riff_shuffler:
I'm gonna put a muffle on your shifty riff raff_shuffle! yeah, you know what I mean!
(everyone else............don't ask!)

I've been using it since October and haven't had one problem yet. My downloads haven't gone down once from Fleebo, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

And thank you WizNicks for the great site! I just requested the first 4 center channel remixes as I am having trouble sending to some of the people that have requested them.
But there are a couple people who were interested in the e-mail group as well so I will keep those names and if anyone else is interested e-mail me and let me know. Requesting missed downloads might be easier to do through WizNicks site but we could still share lists of shows we have between us that we could
send to or trade with each other! Thanks, Ricoh
