Here's how rumours (pun intended) get started: The article mentions nail SCISSORS, and I've already seen in at least a half-dozen postings (one here) people referring to Lindsey cutting his hair with nail clippers. No such thing happened, at least not according to the article. Scissors, even the small dainty ones used for nails would be a lot more efficient than clippers. Frankly, using clippers to cut a whole head of hair probably would be impossible.

A trivial point? Yes and no. Saying clippers makes Lindsey look like a total lunatic who should be in a straight jacket. Scissors changes the story considerably.

That apparently trivial point leads me to my next point: The reader in some cases paints this picture of what she/he wants to believe that no matter what the text actually says, he/she is going to stick with the interpretation that suits his/her belief.

From reading that article, and it is one of the best ones I've seen recently, I deduce the following: Two good friends who still love each other deeply have come to terms with their feelings. They realize that going back to the intensity of their former relationship is impossible but they have learned to treasure, rather than regret and feel bitterness about the relationship. Time and age put things in perspective. I know how getting to know a former lover as a friend after some time apart can bring up the sweetness of the former relationship, allowing for a special friendship that does not cross the boundaries of friendship. That Stevie says they relive their love affair on stage is perfectly understandable to me. Writing about a former love or even talking about it may revive that relationship in an almost tangible way, but it doesn't necessarily mean you would want to go back to it. I think that's what happens to them on stage.

Lastly, Stevie's comment about missing out is tongue in cheek. Perhaps there is a kernel of truth there, but she says that more for the drama than anything.

I, too, think SN and LB are very, very good friends now. The thing that throws me off sometimes is the intensity I saw five times onstage when I saw them last Summer and early Fall. It just is hard to believe something that intense just ends when the lights come up. But, they both say it does, and certainly no overt public act (i.e. "smoking gun" ) exists to demonstrate they are not just good friends off stage. In fact, that Kristin in pregnant clearly demonstrates LB clearly is attracted to and likes K because they must be "doin' somethin' " to get pregnant Seriously, who knows for sure what is going on behind the scene, but I do think it is great that SN and LB still have an intense attraction on some level(s) that keeps the music alive and creates new and IMO great music.

P.S. No matter how ridiculous, I love the image of LB madly clipping with nail clippers and refuse to see it any other way !!!

I take the scissors/clippers discussion to the perception of the other parts of this wonderful, wonderful article:

I must say, and help me with this, is it 100% me that reads a touching tenderness in her words about him? I have never read such sweet words about him coming from her mouth. I was really moved. Or am I just projecting something I wanna read?

I think on this tour, esp. on the second part of the first leg and now, SN has really praised LB. In an interview on a local radio station here in Atlanta, Stevie just gushed about how she is in awe of LB's talent every night and that she could never play the guitar, esp. like that, and sing and she watches him in awe every night do it, etc. Then, this article and the other one in You magazine. This is a far cry from the initial comments in the press a the release of the disc when LB said SN had not thanked him for producing her stuff and SN said she was not happy with perhaps the order of songs on the record.

So, I am glad all is well - at least for the moment!!!!

Lindsey's statements definitely lend themselves towards much speculation. All I know is that if I were Lindsey's wife, I would be extremely upset with him right now.

Oh puhlease. You are going to see a "show". The band realizes that there are still alot of Stevieheads out there, who relish every fake romantic moment acted in this antique soap opera. It's a show, folks! I'm sure they probably are friendly now. They're business partners, milking the most successful era of the band.(not that there's anything wrong with that).

I agree with that whole post...they know that the mass majority want that "romance" on stage. I remember in the All Access (I think it was) VH1 special, Stevie goes "It's not easy doing new songs, and people wanna hear the old stuff." I took that to mean, we CAN'T drop the old stuff, or people won't come see us. Also, they think if they don't continue with the "soap", then people won't be interested.

What was it chilid said...Rumours may have been the worst thing to happen to them. I kinda agree because Lindsey feels the soap overpowers the music, and it does seem that way. I don't give a rat's you-know-what about the soap....GIMME THE MUSIC!!!!!!

I agree that the music is the key thing. However, who on this board did not get even just a little weepy/emotional/excited/whatever when Stevie and LB were locked on each others' eyes during the live performances of Say Goodbye (a "new" song) - it was reported that LB even seemed to manage to cry during some of these performances. Who didn't just get a little emotional, etc., when LB and SN clearly connected during and after Landslide. I think people see this level of emotion even though it essentially is the same "performance" for want of a better word every night - I think the emotion between them is genuine even though it may be premeditated in that they know they have to do the Landslide hug, the Tusk Dance, etc. So, I think the music would not be the same without the emotional outlay and all that comes with that. I also think SN and LB cannot "turn it off," although they can and have turned it to anger (which is next door to affection IMHO).

Since I think we can speak about this like adults for once without flaming or throwing out insults, I'm going to go there....

I don't know but evidently I was the only person who read, "he is my love, my first love, and my love for all time."

Now, since nothing happened in 1997 between them, I guess then Trouble In Shangri La wasn't about her coming to terms with the fact that they can never be together and that she had her heart broken again and I guess that would also mean that she's lying when she says that some songs on Say You Will are about him...no??

She must have had to stretch back MANY years to find inspiration for songs on the new album then

You don't even need to read between her lines. She's coming out and saying it and has been throughout this tour. It *IS* difficult for her to see him with his family even though she's happy he has children. It probably *IS* difficult for them to see where they stand now....remember, he fell for her again and she watched it happen. To say otherwise would be to devalue both of their feelings.

It *IS*easy to seperate fact from fiction. Whether you want to consider the facts is another story.

And I care just as much about the music as the rest of you.

Jason, I get what you are saying and YES they have chemistry and a love that will never die, for each other. They have a special bond and I "get" that, I'm just the kind of person that doesn't get gooey when they do the Landslide thing and Say Goodbye stuff. If I DO get gooey, it's from the song, not them. LOL I'm not saying they are faking everything up there, they are just acting a bit here and there for the crowd.

That's all I'm sayin'.

This argument is getting really old. It is amazing that people are perfectly lovely to me here on the Ledge and this is the ONE ISSUE that people STILL get riled up about. Why do people STILL get riled up about this when "there's nothing between them" and "they're just good friends now"??? Just some food for thought.

Of course it's a "show," it's a concert. But if you're referring to the "SHOW" as in Lindsey and Stevie on stage, that is not an act, that comes from a real place. Stevie has said it herself. ["for those 2 1/2 hours on stage, we are in love again."] And of course they're "probably friendly" now. But I digress. Calling them simply "business partners" after all these years and all the bull**** that has happened between them, that just cheapens everything so much. Because as much as I'm sure you'd like to do so, the band's HISTORY and the band's MUSIC cannot be separated. They are entwined. Lindsey and Stevie's relationship played a huge part in the band's history as well as the band's music. So are they just "business partners?" In my opinion, no. But now, they both seem to be happy and in very good places in their lives, on and off stage. And that should be celebrated. Not condemned.

And I AS WELL, care about the music AS MUCH as the rest of you.
