Stevie Nicks is gross?

A think a great many of us have gotten the Fleetwood WHO? treatment I know I have. Until I found the Ledge at the Penguin in fact it was the most common response I got to liking Fleetwood Mac.

Luckily for me Marty set up the Ledge and since 1997 I've had plenty of people to talk to about Fleetwood Mac!

Frankly I am so happy some of you younger folks like FM-it will keep the music from dying as it might otherwise. It has so little in common with this noise they call music these days that it would never be plyed at all if some young people didn't like it.

I was 16 when I started getting into the Mac... I guess that would make it 1993, and was in the 9th or 10th grade. (And in 1993, there was absolutely nothing popular about Fleetwood Mac or Stevie!) It's funny how some people react to it. I had a friend who was a year younger then me, and she really got into it with me. We absolutely loved it! But I do remember when we were in my car with another friend of mine, listening to Leather and Lace, and when Henley started singing "you in the moonlight...." my other friend was like "oh brother, give me a break...." I thought it was funny. The thing about it is, it was her boyfriend who got me into the Mac!

Till this day she still thinks I'm a goober!

Oh well, you should hear some of the **** she listens to!

I remember when I first got into the Mac when I was 11, most kids my age were not into music or they liked the bubble gum teen idol stuff. Then as the years went on, I encountered people who didn't know who the band was, or thought Lindsey was the girl and Stevie the guy, or that because of their refined studio work that radio played that they weren't rockin' enough to be cool. And in the late 80's most kids around me were into big hair bands and once again, bubble gum pop stuff and I continued to carry my Mac candle burning brightly to this day. I follow them still as they continue to rock my world as I settle into my early 30's.

PPPPFFFTTTT on the people who think they are too old or whatever. They can go listen to WHATEVER they want and zip it.

I don't get why people can't just love who they love and leave other people alone.

Just know that FM fans are the cool people.

And I'll add that while I want what's best for the band, I'd hate it if every teenybopper/dipsh*t were into FM because it was the trendy thing. People who are into this band have a sense of commitment and passion. We don't need the average joes.

well, im 26, and im out of school...but i can relate to what youre saying. i mostly listen to metal, or heavy rock-and its hard enough to find other people that listen to that that i can talk with, not to mention that i LOVE stevie/fleetwood mac, & that just reeeally throws em for a loop, but you know ive really just given up caring what other people say about what i listen to...who cares? its not YOUR fault that everyone else had bad taste!

What can I say. People are stupid. I'm 15 too, and while no one at my school has refered to Stevie as "gross" they don't appreciate or understand her or Fleetwood Mac. Most people at my school listen to rap, which (I'm sorry if I offend anyone) I absolutely hate. In my humble opinion it's not even music. But what can we do. People are going to be the way they're going to be. It took me a while in my life to become confident in who I am and what I like, but now I am, and I don't care what people think. That doesn't mean they don't tell me what they think, but it doesn't really bother me. I've learned that true friends will accept you, quirks and all.

I can't believe your teacher said "it has to be someone who changed the world". Music is such a big part of life and Stevie and FM and a big part of the history of music. I mean, everyone has heard Dreams and GYOW whether they realize they're by FM or not.

Anyways...good luck at school. People are stupid.

I know exactly what you mean. I can not express how much I hate rap "music". I sometimes tell people how I feel about rap music, so I guess I can't really blame them for telling me how they feel about FM, it is just that they have never even given FM a chance.

I know what you mean about becoming comfortable with yourself also. I used to never tell people about things like FM, but this year (10th grade) I have realized that I should just be who I am. I mean, I am constantly dressed in a fleetwood mac shirt and I love it and things like that! And it has helped me so much because I feel like I fit in at school so much more now then when I actually tried to not be myself.

I just wish that there was one other FM fanatic at our school because I just want to talk about them with someone one time! I mean it is nice to have conversations online, but it is not the same as talking to someone face to face...

By the way, I started this thread about a week ago and since then I ordered some new FM shirts online. I wore one yesterday and received nothing but positive comments, not only from teachers who new who they were but a few students, also. So maybe the world isn't as bad as I think!

What the person said about Stevie Nicks was done in VERY VERY poor taste. Discussing music can be a sensitive topic and I do remember being hurt by others making a negative comment about an artist that I liked. The music we listen to can be very personal to each of us because it's what we identify with. It may be hard for someone who doesn't like a particular band or style of music to understand what it might mean to those who do. I like some of the Big Band music of the 1930s and 40s and I imagine it might be a mild form of torture for someone else to listen to it. I realize that someone else would'nt like it or hear it how I do...and that's ok. At the same time, I could only hope that someone else would show respect for me and how they might voice their comments about it.

Here I am a Fleetwood Mac fan and I did'nt start listening to them until I was 28. I was in 12th grade when Tango came out and though I was aware of it and of Fleetwood Mac...I was more focused on a different band and not really paying attention to them. It took me awhile and I'm thrilled that I did discovered their music and to share the same admiration that many many fans do. Proud to be a fan!

I love that kind of music too!! It totally puts you in those eras, unlike any other type of music, IMO.

Mysticfox! We must have been twins in a former life! A big, "DITTO" to your post for me, LOL!!! Same age, same deal! I would have given anything to have had the internet and this site back then! I just had my Tusk documentary and Mirage concert VHS tapes that I just about wore out!
