I thought the lining in the eBay listing was hard to see.

I just want to say that the fabric of Stevie's cape in that cover seems to clearly be silk rayon velvet. The cape on ebay is merely velveteen looking, imo.
I personally am 98% certain that is not the cape.

I wrote to the seller and asked about that, and also if they have a CoA to prove their claim.

I would be extremely cautious of this. From the cover and the outtakes, the cape looks black to me. Even under different light, I don't think that it was any shade of blue. Dark, dark violet maybe. Still, I would be skeptical.
A second look and the listing appears to be purple. I still don't think it's the same cape though. Last edited by 24karatstevie; 03-06-2017 at 09:02 AM.. Reason: Added info |

It looks like one of those Hard Rock Café items.

![]() I'd say that's the definitive word on the cape. Black. This is from the 1997 Harper's Bazaar article someone mentioned earlier. There are also several Herbert Worthington photos of Stevie where she's wearing a black cape. No doubt it's the same one. |

Okay so she wore that cape on stage for the Wild Heart tour (or one similar) and when the lights hit it it looked just as it did on the album cover. I'm betting on the black cape. The cape in the eBay listing isn't even the same material.

The cape on ebay doesn't look like it has a satin lining like Stevie's clearly does. Also, the ebay pics are really small - probably for a reason. It's not that cape. It MAY have been hers, but it's not the one on the album cover, the Herbert Worthington photos, or that she wore on stage in any photos I've seen.
Another thing to note is that there's a 20% premium added to the winning price. Also, they make no guarantees about anything they're selling. In other words, buy at your own risk. "Condition of lots, Warranties and Representations - All lots are sold "AS IS" and without recourse, and neither Potter and Potter Auctions, Inc. nor its consignor(s) makes any warranties or representations, express or implied with respect to such lots. Neither Potter and Potter Auctions, Inc. nor its consignor(s) makes any express or implied warranty or representation of any kind or nature with respect to merchantability, fitness for purpose, correctness of the catalogue or other description of the physical condition, size, quality, rarity, importance, medium, material, genuineness, attribution, provenance, period, source, origin, completeness, historical significance of any lot sold." |

I must be checked for color blindness. Black would be the last color I would say the album cover cape was

I received a reply from the seller. I read from it that they merely infer that this is the Wild Heart cape, to me it is even merely inferred that it once belonged to Stevie Nicks, merely because it was heaped in with an auction that also happened to include lots of Fleetwood Mac things.
Personally, I am of the very strong opinion that this is not the wild heart cape, and if it DID belong to Stevie, maybe it was gifted by a fan or something. Just supposing things here, I realize, but I simply cannot see MK or any of Stevie's designers ever choosing such a poorly-draping cheap fabric as velveteen for a cloak. Or, Stevie consenting to wearing it. See how wrinkled it even is? Silk rayon velvet would NEVER do that, it's heavy and drapes beautifully, and creases fall out. I just don't see it. Personally. Here is a copy of the reply: Hello, Thanks for your inquiry. This piece came from a prominent auction in 2003 that featured dozens of lots related to Fleetwood Mac, including other original pieces of clothing from the wardrobe of Stevie Nicks (please see our citation and look up this sale online for further reference). The lot is accompanied by the original sales invoice from that sale, and our auction also includes a Stevie Nicks Presentation BPI gold record award that our consigner purchased in the same sale. Based on its sales history and the strength of the accompanying material we are confident in its authenticity. It is not accompanied by a COA from any of the people you mention. Discuss ![]()

We may never know if its the same exact cape from the album. But its definitely Stevie related where you can track the original auction. I have seen authentic autographs sold with no certification. I have seen fake autographs sold with fake certifications, etc. The seller is well established with almost flawless feedback. I definitely do not think the seller is lying even if its not the same exact cape. At the original auction this is how it was probably sold to them. The seller bashers should take up the claim with the original auction. Not this seller who is selling the piece many years later how it was sold to him/her. This cape did not come out of "nowhere" and is not being sold by someone NOT affiliated with selling rock star memorabilia. Research the seller's store before you cast judgment.
