Gathering from bits and pieces i've noticed over the past 5+ years, she is yet another celebrity who got real pissed to find out people might sell her autograph on ebay and as a result, got extremely buttoned up about signing for people.
There's a video of her leaving a grammy party a few years ago and some guy asks her to sign something and Karen get's real defensive and insists on getting the guys name so stevie can dedicate the autograph. Autographs are worth less and are less likely to be sold if they are inscribed.
Every album cover from the IYD in store autograph signings were all inscribed, you won't find one without an inscription. Again, autograph collectors are less likely to sell if it's inscribed and the value is much less.
That really cute buckingham nicks album cover moment captured on video a few weeks ago on the Pretenders tour - she asked that person to "hang out" because she sure as heck was going to make sure it was inscribed to them, not just signed and returned quickly.
There was a story i read somewhere a few years ago where somebody met her backstage and an autograph photo was treated and given away as a special gift.
Like I said, it sounds like she has a real issue with non-fans selling her autograph and instead she just rarely signs for anyone now. She used to have a lady handle her mail and she would forward items to Stevie to sign, but that ship sailed in the late 90's.
I met Lindsey on his "One Man Show" tour and as he was signing my B/N cover I mentioned it would be cool to have her sign it someday, even he said "good luck with that!"

That's funny because when she was at Barnes and Noble for the Soundstage release they actually told all of us that she wouldn't personalize the signatures and not to ask. She just wrote her standard "Much Love, Stevie Nicks".
