Post Chris on guitar?

If you haven't seen Les' great new site http://www.madnessfades.net/ I suggest you visit it as soon as you can. One particularly interesting thing there is this video of a rehearsal on "Save Me A Place" on the Tusk page. In it you can clearly see Chris playing an acoustic guitar on stage and singing harmony vocals. I was wondering how common it was for her to be playing that. This is the first time I've ever seen (or read, for that matter) any evidence of her playing any guitar, so was it only for this song?

Of course, if that's John or Ray Lindsey wearing a skirt, then I'm mistaken.

Yep, that's Chris. In the first US leg of the Tusk tour, she very much was playing acoustic guitar on "Save Me A Place"...the only time I've ever seen her play guitar on-stage.

To think that Christine was "just a keyboard player" for Fleetwood Mac is really not taking her talents into consideration. Over the years, besides various keyboards, I've seen her play guitar, dulcimer, autoharp, accordion, harmonium (that wierd harmonica sounding wind instrument that has a piano-like keyboard), some sort of mallet-struck percussion instrument (kind of a mini-marimba type thing...on early versions of "Second Hand News"), as well as maracas on "World Turning", "Rattlesnake Shake" & "Oh Well".

She also played bass in, I think, Chicken Shack.

Long Live and Good Health to the lovely and talented Christine!!!

Nope, Andy Sylvester was the bass player in Chicken Shack but I think she was the bass player in Sounds Of Blue (her band prior to CS that never recorded, that I know of anyways).

Like ChiliD says, she was (& is) a great multi instrumentalist, very overlooked and underrrated in this regard and hopefully we'll get a taste of that on her up coming solo album (?).

Oops!!

I was geting that from an audio or perhaps video interview of her awhile back where she says " . . . and for some obscure reason I was playing bass." Does anybody remember this interview? I think it was in the 80's, but could be wrong.

Yeah, it's from the Tusk doc that she says that in.

I admit that I originally though it was CS that she meant when she said it too.

So I couldn't wait to get the CS albums in the hopes of seeing her and hearing her on bass but no, it was the keys there. I bet a lot of us must've thought the same thing when we heard her say that there for the first time.

On that same Tusk rehearsal video, in addition to "Save Me A Place", she also played guitar on "The Ledge". As far as I know, they never actually played "The Ledge" live in concert. She also played a chair on the Rumours album version of "Second Hand News".

Really? I don't think my VHS copy of that rehearsal has "The ledge". I should check but in the meantime do you know of someone that has a copy of "The ledge" from that rehearsal on VHS that can make me a copy? Any direction on this would be most appreciated so thanks in advance.

I'd make you a copy, but I only have 1 VCR. The video I have is 2 hours long and "The Ledge" is definitely on there. Maybe you only have the Tusk Outtakes video which I think only has about 3 or 4 songs from the same rehearsal. But, there is a full Tusk rehearsal tape in circulation. Hopefully, someone else has this tape and an extra VCR.

Oh OK, so it's from that other 2 hour Tusk rehearsal deal, I thought you meant it was from the short one.

I have the Tusk tour rehearsal complete tape....the only problem is it was shot from so far away. then, i have a tape that has a few clips from another rehearsal from another night. i think it consists of "rhiannon", "landslide", "save me a place", and "oh daddy". these clips were professionally shot and multi camera. is there a complete rehearsal from that night floating around?

i meant to say that the latter clips were close-ups like a regular concert would be taped.

Yeah Joe, that "pro shot but short" one is the one I have too. I personally only collect "pro shot" stuff on the video so as that long Tusk rehearsal was just the one camera (and far away to boot as you rightly pointed out), I never bothered to get it.

With the confusion between the two titles, that's why I thought the "pro shot but short" one had the "The ledge" performance from what someone said above but I now realize it was the "long rehearsal with one far away camera" one that had "The ledge" on it so I think I'll leave it for now.

I'd sure like to find the full version of that short one too if it exists but it looks like all we have is all we're going to get on that one (unfortunately).
