True, but for Tango and BTM I think she gets a pass. TOSOTM was equally bad, and we all know why - she was tranqued.

The songs on SYW are great songs from a writing perspective, but they sound sterile, technological and cold, and I'd say it's a Lindsey, er, I mean a production issue, entirely. Not to pick on Lindsey, but his songs sound the same to me - cold and metallic. Steal Your Heart Away is the only one with any blood in it.

In contrast, Fleetwood Mac albums up through 1982 have some soul. The songs sound like they have life and blood flowing through them.

Bleed to Love Her is a gem.

True, yes, I forgot that one.

Me too, but I sometimes wonder if there's really any magic left there. It wasn't on Say You Will (the songs were good, but they didn't really sound like Fleetwood Mac, in the way that Dreams or Gypsy or Sara sounded like Fleetwood Mac).

Thank goodness Lady was the only piano track on 24 Karat Gold, and it wasn't Stevie playing it. Maybe you don't have the album, but it wasn't a compilation of demos.
I thought her SYW stuff was solid. Granted, the chemistry between LB/SN isn't like LB/CM. But I loved Illume, Thrown Down, Running, Everybody Finds Out.

Great song, indeed, though it could be less metallic.

I don't know how else to explain it. SYW sounds like it was recorded in an aluminum foil lined chamber. Maybe it just needs a remix/remaster.

Either way, whatever they do, I hope the next album is a little less techy sounding.

I would love if they brought back Ken and Richard to get that deep acoustic sound that FM has. BTM and SYW don't have that.

Ironically, "Time" does.

I love the opening track. Some of the music on that album bothers me.

I've been listening to SYW a lot recently, and Stevie is on fire on that album. I think if you cut SYW down to 5 songs from each of them, you have an incredible album:

Stevie:
Illume
Thrown Down
Running Through The Garden
Everybody Finds Out
Destiny Rules

Lindsey:
Peacekeeper
Miranda
Steal Your Heart Away
Bleed To Love Her
Say Goodbye

Those ten are, in my opinion, the best cuts from SYW and once you strip away the terrible and those better left for solo albums... it's a pretty amazing band album.

I think if they harmonised together a bit more it would have worked a lot better to. I read somewhere years ago, probably on here, how someone said it sounds like they "ghost" on each other's tracks - totally the best way to describe it.

I love your list. Great selection.

Say You Will would also have been a good opportunity to release two albums in quick succession. 20 songs were recorded to completion, with 18 on SYW and two bonus tracks on the deluxe edition. Imagine two 10-track albums, released 4-6 months apart. I do believe that might have generated a lot of buzz, given them two chart debuts in the same year, and the second album's release would likely have given a late sales boost to the first, maybe putting them both on the charts at the same time.

Not that chart placement matters, but chart position does give visibility, and that never hurts.

Oh well.

wasn't that Lindsey's original plan? he describes in DR doc how he envisioned them releasing an album, tour it, then releasing another album and tour that one and that would have given them a nice 5-year run.

Stevie nixed that so they reverted to SYW as we know it, and LB went on to release the rest of the songs he had plus new ones he wrote on SYW tour and in the meantime as two solo albums and toured those instead.

The only problem with two ten track albums being they'd have had one really good album and one pretty crap one.
or
Two really mediocre albums.

I'm not sure - I do remember talk of a double album, though. Maybe what that meant is the scenario you describe; I interpreted it as Tusk redux.

I suppose, but that's subjective really. I like all of SYW, except Red Rover grates on my nerves at times. And Smile At You is understated... But by and large, I'd have enjoyed both albums.

no, no - 2 separate scenarios and parts of the doc. although he may have been talking about both in the same segment - the one where he's going on about "eating a f*ck of a lot of money"

i guess double album was an option being pushed by LB after the 2 albums / 2 tours got nixed.
