It just hit me how we're talking about Christine in the present day, in relation to things going on right now - what an amazing treat for us all when for years we debated here whether she would ever return!

I found it quite overwhelming to be at front of stage the other night, right near Christine and getting quite a few smiles throughout the concert

When Mick was doing the band intros and mentioned Lindsey "having an eye on the future of this band", Christine started laughing - it was so fun to be right there to see the little interactions - there were many.

Baby, it's just your computer. But that is because it is mostly videos and sometimes computers are slow at loading those things. Not mine though. You can still check out all those videos in the video thread. Good luck.

Thanks Darls, knew i could count on you ok i will stop trying then .. I tried really hard to stay away from Nicole's video thread, i caved in 30 mins ago just watched GDW and Rhiannon Wow! ... I cant wait to see them next week in Brissy.

I had to post this because the irony is too funny. Over My Head has its claim to fame as Fleetwood Mac's first "hit" according to Wikipedia, peaking at #20 on US Billboard.
The same chart peak as Think About Me.

Just could not help myself to point out this tid bit. But it is a bit odd. Over My Head is routinely still played more than Think About Me.

I'm So Afraid of missing Fleetwood Mac

It's the curse of the Sydney Entertainment Centre: whether it's Coldplay or Fleetwood Mac, columnist Joe Aston just can't avoid disaster.


When Fleetwood Mac announced their Australian tour dates six months ago, my mate Dan was straight on the phone. "They're playing Sydney in October. You want in?"

Instantly, a fever descended; flaming visions of Stevie's circle twirls on my mind's stage, the tedium of my Monday Morning garrotted. "Oh Daddy, yes!"

I'd seen the Mac twice in my life. The first time was at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in 2004 with my uncle Greg and some chancer we picked up that arvo at the Golden Sheaf. Greg was one of those rogues who'd never met a woman he didn't want to marry; but that notwithstanding, he truly was besotted with Stevie Nicks. We were 10 rows back in the middle, and he stood through the show, jiving and crying. "I've always loved her," he croaked in my ear, tearfully, during Landslide.

Then in January this year I flew to New York (going drink for drink with Richard Wilkins, from the First Lounge in Sydney – where Dicky put in a call to Stevie's manager – to the top of descent over Pennsylvania), transferring straight from JFK to Madison Square Garden. I took my seat in the stands. Dicky sat with the soundies behind the mixing desk, before downing a bottle of Vodka backstage with Naomi Campbell.

And, with the return of Christine McVie after nearly 20 years, the band (and the set list) was whole again: Everywhere, Little Lies, and Songbird, that peerless finale ejecting us into wintry Midtown Manhattan.

Third time lucky

And now for the third. We convene on Sussex Street at the storied Golden Century for a brisk round of duck pancakes and battery-acid sauvignon blanc and I regale our group with a tale:

It was June 2006, and Greg had died suddenly the previous week. To cheer us up, I'd organised to take my little brother Lachlan to see Coldplay. We'd done the same thing: san choy bau and then down the hill to the Entertainment Centre. At the entrance, the ticket scanner made the wrong noise. "Sorry mate, but these tickets were for last night." The desolation of that moment was depthless.

The table laughs ruefully before we finish up and head through Chinatown. Approaching the venue, billboards advertise Russell Brand and Hugh Jackman shows. Our tickets point us to Door 5, but there are only doors A, B and C. "Let's just line up – we'll find the door when we get inside," Dan says.

The show should've started five minutes ago but we join a line that snakes back from the doors nearly 35 metres. These gigs never start on time. "There are a lot of young people," remarks Dan's wife Allie, regarding our fellow concert-goers. "Where are all the battleaxes?"

I'm unperturbed. "They're probably all looking at us thinking the same thing." And then the ticket scanner emits that haunting double beep of rejection. The attendant takes a second look at our tickets. "Wait a minute baby, this is Russell Brand's show. Fleetwood Mac is out at Homebush."

Undiluted shock

This cannot be happening. Again (will I never break The Chain?). After a moment of undiluted shock, we bolt for a cab. There are six of us. I hail two. "I'll take this one," I say to Rossco and Cecily, who grab the second, "As Long As You Follow."

"Don't Stop," Dan yells at the driver as we bundle in.

"You want me to take the M4?"

"You can Go Your Own Way, as long as it's quick," I say.

"But don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy," Dan chimes in. "I'm So Afraid we're going to miss Sara."

Incredibly, we only miss the first four songs (including Dreams). Lindsey Buckingham is starting to look like Art Garfunkel, but remains a complete animal – at one point I thought his strings would burst into flames. With hands like that, no wonder Stevie was up for it back in 1965, then a 17-year-old Gypsy in San Francisco.

My friend Adam leans over at one point. "Fact: Mick Fleetwood gets to put 'drummer' on his tax return. Dead set legend."

Landslide moment

And then the seminal moment: Landslide. It's like seeing Paul Simon sing Sound of Silence or Springsteen do Born to Run, or Jesus preach on the Mount of Olives. I think of Greg and the tears come. "…And I'm getting older too…."

And afterwards we can all laugh about our comedy of errors, about missing all the signals back there in Haymarket. "It all comes down to you, Dan."

I resolve to write all of this down come Monday Morning. And as for Sydney Entertainment Centre, even though yesterday's gone, still, I'm Never Going Back Again.
