My mother asked me to put something in her old I-pod because she's not much of a technologist and my sister choose ****ty modern songs for her, so among all her other favourite artists (Queen, Elton John, David Bowie) I put a Fleetwood Mac playlist for beginners:
01 Second hand news 02 Dreams (from the official video) 03 Landslide 04 Say you love me 05 Go your own way 06 You make loving fun 07 The chain 08 Silver springs 09 Blue letter 10 Brown eyes 11 Rhiannon (from the Midnight Special) Have you had similar experiences? What would you put on a list for beginners? and if my experiment is successful what would be best to put on her I-pod the next time? I was thinking about making some sort of "Tusk for beginners" list. |

"Tusk for beginners" is easy. It's:
"Over & Over" "Sara" "Think About Me" "Save Me a Place" "Storms" "Angel" "Honey Hi" "Beautiful Child" "Tusk" "Never Forget" |

The Green Manalishi
I'm So Afraid (live) Rhiannon Sisters Of The Moon No filler there. You'd get the impression that Fleetwood Mac was a serious Rock group. |

My mom enjoyed Stevie's 2005 tour with Don Henley when I invited her to come with me..She also liked FM too.

I had a hard time getting my Mum to sit down and listen to things at first. She already was familiar with the greater hits, I believe. Anyway, at some point, obviously something clicked for her (I think it might have been the solo material, IIRC), because now she reads here and seems to 'like' every second post on various Lindsey Facebook communities, lol.

Mostly I don't know what Lindsey's tusk songs would she appreciate because she doesn't like excessive quirkiness. |

Instead my lovely mother, even if she is definitely a rocker, doesn't enjoy too heavy rock music, as you can see from her favourite artists Queen, Elton John, David Bowie. She likes anything that is catchy but with substance, from international pop-rock to italian classic folk singer-songwriters. One of the most long-lived fights between my parents is the debate between the Beatles (preferred by my mother) and the Rolling Stones (preferred by my father). Its hard to convert anyone to a music group. But its a fun thread so I give it a try. I would download the amazing harmonies of the Mac and some of their pop hits. Tusk is not a beginner album IMHO. That is pure fan appreciation to understand the genius of that record. Once you are a fan then you really appreciate it. My beginner list is:
Love in Store Gypsy Tango in the Night Isn't It Midnight Think About Me Rhiannon Go your own way

Mmmm I could try to put some Don Henley-Stevie action. Mother doesn't disdain Eagles. She could maybe enjoy the tunes they sang together both for Bella Donna and the 2005 tour.

However I managed to convert both my sister and my bestfriend to my favourite movies, tv series and music so I won't stop. I'm a disturbing and pervasive little thing... Quote:

It's not that she doesn't like ballads, in fact she loves power-ballads, but she she's an active type and likes to listen to songs that accompany her in her activities (you wouldn't listen to Songbird while running for example). That being said, she doesn't like too sad songs. For example she wouldn't like Songbird much but she could like Brown Eyes. |
