I've just re-listened to TISL and realised what an amazing album it is.
Stevie was so popular after it, with it being her "return." So why didn't she do another solo project and capitalize on this success, after the Say You Will tour? I think this would have kept her work in everyone's memory, by the time IYD came along her influence just wasn't as big.

She did not record a totally NEW album, but she kept herself busy...
1. There was the big tour with Tom Petty and Heartbreakers, a DVD etc 2. Soundstage Sessions, album of rerecorded materials, plus a special DVD, plus a tour 3. Another greatest hits package, plus a tour 4. A fleetwood Mac tour (Unleashed) 5. "guest" artists on various specials and on other albums or tributes 6. I think there were a couple other minor mini tours in there too. One of which was supposed to of been recorded in Melbourne but she had her eyes did and they were saggy and so she scrapped it. The main reasons cited for NOT making a new album of new material was that. 1. Her record company said that nobody was buying records anymore, to hold off and wait 2. She was all bitter about how TISL sold and died after 9/11 and was all sad and cancelled the world tour (seriously, I know she is crazy, it hit #3) 3. She got lazy or became difficult to work with after a hissy fit with LB over the track listing on SYW. John Stewart finally got her to cooperate for IYD by saying "if you don't like it was don't have to do it" 4. Her Dad died and she turned into a bit of recluse 5. She went through the "change of life" and maybe felt like she wasn't confident enough in her sex appeal? I dunno. I am not a woman I don't know how that works. We know she can be VERY vain. Meanwhile in that decade between TISL and IYD album sales took a sharp nose dive, people stopped buying whole records. iTunes became the main place people bought "singles" again (like they used to in the days of 78s and 45s before "Albums" of songs on 331/3 became popular) and she just did NOT know what to do with herself. She is an album rock oriented type artists, even if she pretends to always have a single. Her last decent "single" was 1989 as a solo and Silver Springs as part of FM. I think everything else since has a minor hiccup or burp on the charts. Charts are for teenagers and contest winners now unless its country or rap. |

Erm, TISL hit #5 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold within 6 weeks. I don't think Stevie was disappointed with this or the album selling 665,000 copies, I have never seen any source to back this up.

look for the clips of the show on youtube. Her eyes are half shut the whole time and looks like her brows are sitting on top of her eyelids.

Eye lifts actually aren't viewed as a cosmetic surgery anymore, and in fact health insurance covers them entirely. That is if your eyelids sag to the point where they inhibit your field of vision; which Stevie's did. I've known multiple people who have had this procedure done- it's outpatient, and any visible signs of this very minor surgery are gone within a week. As far as the weirdness of her eyes in the Melbourne concert, I'd always chalked that up to an especially bad round of botox. I know she said she only had botox done once, then swore off it... but I don't buy that. Plus, eye lifts don't cause whatever her eyes were doing there... but botox certainly can.

In some interviews .She was hot over the internet with the freeloaders taking her and other artists tunes.Cant blame her for being pissed off about that.Plus Youtube did not help the matter.

I don't think there was ever truly an expectation that the whole Melbourne show would be released on DVD/etc. There was an issue with the first few songs and she re-recorded them at the very of the show (with audience still present), but she didn't change into the right costume. It was only ever going to be an audio recording.

She was disillusioned by the response to TISL because it was touted as her "Santana-style comeback". That's why she teamed up with so many current artists. The problem was the stupid record co. choice for singles and vids. I think the public was expecting rocking Stevie after the Dance, but they issued the insipid , bland "Everyday" as the first single. The song is OK, but Santana's comeback featured the uber-hot (at the time) Rob Thomas... Her first single featured NONE of the current artists who collaborated with her. FFG, PotU, or even TFFTx would have been better leadout singles... (I know everyone here hates TffT, but it was at the height of Dixie Chick popularity AND the cusp of Country's rise)
The record could have coasted for months on the guest star singles.. EXCLUDING Sorcerer, because Sheryl's production was amateurish |
