depends, he describes doing both. it fits the definition of producing when he says this:

"When Peter (Green) was in the group, he was the leader of the group. He was always the guy who, more or less, chose the direction that everything was gonna go. But after he left the group, from that time until the time that we joined, I don’t really think there was a certain one member in the group who could be said to be the idea man - the one who had the real, definite concept of how the music should sound. And uh...when we joined, that was just one thing that had come naturally to me for years. I’d been working with tape recorders since I was about 17 years old, and uh...understanding the possibilities of the technology with the possibilities of the music gives you a very strong foundation from which to work in the studio. And that’s just something that I enjoy doing, and they seemed to enjoy having me do it. I think they needed it.
GRT Retrospective, November 1981"

and it fits the definition of arranging when he's describing what he did with Dreams or Landslide, for example:

I have a feeling he's done, though. I walked away from social media (facebook, etc) a few years ago myself and haven't looked back. Social media can be a negative and highly stressful experience. I can certainly empathize with why Richard has bowed out.
if you click from his twitter on certain posts it says:
http://dickdash-deactivated20150514.tumblr.com/post/115276641989/call-of-the-wild-with-tribal-rhythm-such-was-the#_=_

however, http://dickdash.tumblr.com/ takes you now to someone else's tumblr, so that would mean the url was released? if so, that would be too bad about the lost non-archived stuff.

i think you may be right about him maybe being just fed up with social media and added stress he doesn't really need.

Thankfully much of it was preserved/archived on web.archive.org. There are enough pages preserved that most of what he posted still exists.

You can also still see many of the pictures through his Instagram account, which hasn't been removed yet: https://instagram.com/richarddashut

I don't know, call me skeptical, but that whole page is a little creepy and pitiful. It just feels like something Stacy & Co created because this Richard guy is just starving for attention. I don't care if I am the only one who feels this way here, but I call it like I see it. Major insecurity and ego stroking.

I stand by my initial feeling.

....again, lets let this thread die, and Richard can fade into oblivion like so many others in fleetwood mac's past.

I'm familiar with both the interview and the video clip. Unfortunately, the line between arrangement and production still isn't entirely clear to me from watching/reading either.

By production (ie: laying out a "concept of how the music should sound") are we talking a largely technical angle? And/or are we talking about the more general frame for a song?

I think when the band refers to Lindsey as producer many of the examples are really of him coming up with an arrangement for certain tracks, and those arrangements are admittedly creative and clever. However, Christine deserves some of this credit, too.

How many others in Fleetwood Mac's past were the producer of one of the best selling albums of all time? He'll always have his place and it won't be in "oblivion".

I have been a Fleetwood Mac fan since 1975 and i don't care who is sitting behind the board. Most fans don't care who produced the artists album, they just care about the band members and the music. Yes, if you are a sound person, a producer or a musician then you care about who was sitting behind the glass and all the intricacies. Most fans only care about the band and the final product. Go to a Rolling Stones concert and ask anyone if they can name one producer of any RS album at any point in the history of the band and less than 1 in 1000 could answer that question.

To be honest, Stevie and Linds could be sitting in an empty room with a childs karaoke machine singing "old mcdonald" and i would listen to it.

Richard faded into oblivion in 1978. Most people just don't care...and besides Ken has put the spotlight on himself and self promoted himself taking much of the credit for Rumours. I assume he did this to look good in the production circles. Again, the fans really don't care who Ken is or who Richard is.

This board is a collection of pretty diehard fans. There are less than 500 people on this board regularly ( and i am being generous with that number). This is not a good sample of reality in regards to how people feel about who is producing the music. FM had sold a million tickets on this tour. Most of those ticket holders have no idea who Richard is. Really, he has faded into oblivion, no one cares about the producers.

I for one care very much who produces Fleetwood Mac as that has a big impact on the overall sound we hear. Richard and Ken's input has been sorely missed (oh, to have had those guys working on Behind The Mask and Say You Will- one can only have imagined the outcome). Aside from the technical aspect of making a record I also find myself caring about Richard as a person. I dont think we can underestimate the role those two guys played. They may not have officially been in the band but make no mistake- for all intents and purposes they were band members. Of course the masses at large couldn't give a monkey's who their producer is. For diehard fans it very much is significant.

'Richard faded into oblivion in 1978' ???? what a load of sh!t

That was my point, thank you.

PS...i am a diehard fan and just don't care about anyone other than the band members. Only the band members are band members of fleetwood mac Don't care about the rest of the "team", the producers, the mixers, the wardrobe lady, the photographers, the caterers, the lighting people, the bus drivers, the drug dealers, the tour managers, the guitar tech, the drum techs, etc etc, to me as individuals they are not at all significant because they are easily replaceable and with each album and tour many of them change. Each role is important and certainly a contributor, but does that make me any more or less of a fan if i care about them or know who they are and their individual contributions? no, not at all. They are just background players...and yes, they fade away.

Like I said, BTM and SYW (and EP) all show their skills as producers weren't necessarily 'easily replaceable'.

I'm not sure how you figure Richard faded into oblivion in 1978- he continued to produce the band's albums right up through Time in 1995 (with the exception of Behind the Mask- and we see how that one turned out!). He also produced Mick and Lindsey's solo albums during that time period, including the critically acclaimed & fan favorite Out Of The Cradle.

Agreed. There is a reason why the Fleetwood Mac albums from the 70s and 80s were the band's most successful, classic albums- they had a stellar production team with Richard & Ken. Richard & Ken were the icing on the FM cake. Sure, they weren't the main ingredients which were the building blocks of the structure... but they were the details which really made the whole thing sparkle, and elevated the Mac's work to the next level.

Just look at Behind The Mask as an example. The production style of that album just cannot compare to anything the band did in the years preceding. It was very run of the mill, very cliché, and quite honestly- dumbed down. Sure, part of that album's sound can be pinned on Lindsey's leaving the band. But I'm not sure that explains all of it- just look at how beautiful some of Rick Vito's solo work is, for instance.
