Inside the Most Twirltastic Tribute Show in NYC: Night of 1000 Stevies

"It's a Noah's Arc of Stevie love," says co-creator Chi Chi Valenti

Each year, a diverse and enthusiastic crowd of diehard Stevie Nicks fans pack a New York City venue to celebrate — and even transform into — rock's most bewitching performer. This year, Night of 1000 Stevies celebrated its 25th anniversary and Rolling Stone's cameras were on the scene capturing an extremely unique fan experience.

"Stevie's one of the top rock idols for any woman," performer Heather Litteer tells Rolling Stone while excitedly prepping in her apartment. "It's incredible," she says. "It's like a sea. It's like the ocean of Stevies coming in."

Outside of Irving Plaza, hordes of fans in curly blonde wigs and sparkly costumes sing their favorite tracks from Nicks' solo career or the Fleetwood Mac catalog. Onstage, performers cover the songs live or lip-sync the tracks in all forms of Stevie Nicks drag. "I don't think we were really aware of how big her fan base is and how many people — and different types of people — like Stevie," co-producer Dynell tells RS. "It's a Noah's Arc of Stevie love," Dynell's wife Valenti adds.

That night, Litteer took the stage, performing one of the newly unearthed tracks on Nicks' recent album 24 Karat Gold. With a brass section behind her, she pummels through "Cathouse Blues" with as much charisma as the singer she's honoring.
