Another Photo Taking Question??

I just want some opinions on this subject. Where is the best place to hide your camera? Anyone have any luck with disposable cameras? Is it better to be on the floor in the first few rows or on the side close to the stage to take your shots? Has anyone had a problem with security? Tell me your stories as I am interested and how I should proceed if I decide to bring my camera.

Well first off, I'm a guy so this may be easier for me. I'm pretty thin and lean too, but what I do is stick the camera in the small of my back. The first show in Tampa, FL I went to I took a 35 mm with a zoom and shoved it right inbetween my boxer shorts and my jeans! In other words, right in the crack o' my a$$. And they didnt even notice it! I just went to the Atlanta show a few days ago and took TWO disposables in. I put them both in the same place and had no problem. With women, they CHECK PURSES and baggy jackets. The less clothing you have on, the better.

But on the bright side, once you get in there, no one gives a sh*t. The guys on the floor are really just crowd control. They dont give a rats @ss about cameras. I saw a woman just walk right up to the stage to take a picture of it before the band came on! And no one said anything to her. I wouldnt be THAT obvious, but there's just an example for you.

As far as snapping the shots, I just had on semi-loose fit jeans. Each time I'd snap a shot I'd put the camera in my back pocket just in case. I tried to get a good shot per song. Keep your hands to your side and no one will mess with you! It's better to be on the front 3 rows for disposables. If you are further back, you need a zoom for the pics to turn out worthwhile.

when i saw fm in july, i originally had my camera in my pants pocket. once i bought a t-shirt, all i did was go outside and wrap the camera (a disposable) in the shirt and made it look like i had just bought the shirt and crumpled it up to carry. then when they waved the metal detector over me, i just nonchalantly tossed the shirt w/camera hidden onto the metal table. security didn't even bat an eye.

also, when i brought my miniature recorder in, i just hid it in a pack of cigarettes, which i also nonchalantly tossed onto the metal table. the good thing about using cigarette packs to conceal things is that the foil liner is large enough to activate the detectors, so i wouldn't think they would pay attention if they were to scan it. even better is if you have a lighter stuck in the cellophane wrapper, because they will hopefully just think the lighter's metal and the foil liner are what is making the detector go off.

i wonder if a smaller camera--like one of those Elphs--would fit in a cigarette pack. i think you just have to make sure whatever you are concealing is not apparent if they were to open the cigarettes--i just made sure the only thing visible in my cigarette pack was the foil and some cigarettes.

once i was inside and the show began, i was snapping pictures happily and none of the floor crew paid any attention.

at that show, i saw several women outside concealing recorders or other things in their tall, black leather boots. evidently security doesn't check those.

I hid mine in my purse. I had a purse that has one of those inside zipper pockets . So when they asked to look inside my purse I just opened the main pocket. Little did they know that inside the little zipper part, I had my camera. After that I took it out and put it in my pocket and would pull it out and snap pictures. That was a little harder because security saw me and told me to stop. They later relaxed and let me continue as long as I didn't use a flash which I didn't. The second show I went to I hid the camera the same way. This time I had one of those mini digital cameras. I just took my purse up to the stage. My purse was pretty small so I just wore it around my shoulder. I would pull the camera out and snap away. Security didn't say anything to me. The camera was pretty small though so they might not have seen it.

Did your non-flash photos come out? Mine sure didn't! And security has always been majorly anal about photos everywhere I went except the Chicago AllState arena - where my camera DIED! My last chance is Saturday's Chicago concert - let's hope the United Center is the same way!

~~~Pip, how funny are you with your very creative hiding place!!! Years ago I was into the obscure hiding places for cameras but now I find it just too distracting. Perhaps, it has something to do with getting busted at Houston and later at Seattle. Now I just want to enjoy the concert.~~~

Some of my non flash pictures came out, but they weren't that good. I was in the third row for that one. However, I had a disposable camera. If you have your own camera, I would try and get at least 800 speed film. My pictures using the digital came out great. For that one I was right at the stage though. I didn't use a flash for those either.

Bra. Works every time. & if they use a metal detector wand and it goes off, say your nipples are pierced.

LOL! I used the Tampax box for Vegas but they didn't even check my bag. They were cool with us taking photos as long as we didn't use a flash
