Does anyone know anything about Bucky's mother? I've heard him speak of his father a couple of times but never his mom.But then again,I don't read his quotes as incessantly as I do Stevie's-hers are amusing b/c they change with the wind

There are more on his upbringing and father, etc, but these one are the ones I could immediately find about his mother or at least referring to her.

My childhood was pretty idyllic. It was pretty Ozzie & Harriett. My father was an executive. My mother was a homemaker. We belonged to a country club. (2001)

Well, my mom grew up around San Jose, and she was a debutante-type. Her grandparents were a real big family in San Jose, wealthy. Her great-grandfather was like the first doctor in Santa Clara county, came across in a covered wagon, the whole bit. My dad grew up on a farm, and it was very odd. I mean, they weren't suited for each other in that way, very dissimilar backgrounds. But people didn't think about it. When it was time to get married, you got married It's not like that today. My dad went to work for my mother's grandfather, who had started a coffee company in San Francisco. (1982)

In general my parents were supportive of everything; they were supportive of me as a person... I don't think my mother was of a mind that music would be something that I should pursue professionally. I think she knew the entertainment business was a rough one, and that there are a lot of pitfalls and a heavy lack of stability. So she didn't encourage me to seek that out, but she certainly encouraged me to play. (1992)

Right after high school, someone saw how well I played, and they just sort of yanked me out of my situation. That same fall, I quit the water polo team, grew my hair out, and that was it. My mom was going, "Oh my God!" My brother's going, "You're not going to let him grow his hair out, are you?!" (1992)

[Do you come from an academic background? You come across as being well-educated.] I wouldn't say so. My mother and father both graduated from college, but they weren't particularly intellectual by any means. (1984)

My mother is very proud, and my oldest brother, Jeff, who was the one who brought home 'Heartbreak Hotel' when I was six... he and I have always had a rapport through sharing that kind of music, and he follows my career with great interest. (1982)

My mom died about two years ago. She got to see my son. I think she realized that there was an anchor and a structure there for me that hadn't been there ever in my life. (2001)

He's said his mother had him taking piano lessons, but those lessons didn't strike a musical chord with him, like his self-taught guitar playing did. And Javiar said when they practiced over at Lindsey's house, his mother would make them lemonade, but when they went to Stevie's house her mother thought they were a bad influence on Stevie and she wasn't welcoming. She thought they should enter the military.

thanks for sharing all these tidbits. don't think i've ever seen these 2 before, especially the top one.

weird statement about "the time to get married" considering it was made by someone born in California in mid-20th century.

Well, obviously it changed over time then, lol.

Nah, she loved him too. I'm still pretty in love with the fact that Barb went to solo shows of his. So sweet.

I don't know if Barbara just didn't want Stevie in Fritz. At AHI after the show, when Barbara was talking about heart research, she talked about the death of Lindsey's father and how Lindsey was at their house all of the time, like one of the family.

Stevie also said that one of the reasons she could never lose contact with Lindsey was that her parents absolutely loved him. And she said parents, plural, not just Jess.

Barbara went to see two Lindsey shows on the same tour. He dedicated NGBA to her, which amused me.

LB: I just remember my mom trying to get me to take piano lessons for about six months. And it was a drag. I hated it. And the guitar had so much more potential. I think I started out with a little toy plastic guitar. And then the next Christmas they got me a little three-quarter size acoustic, which I had until I was about 12. Then I got a little Martin.

Oh, she did just say her father after all:

"My father adores Lindsey. Adores him. Lindsey can never go out of my life for that reason there, you know what I mean?"

She mentions her mom here:

I mean, I my mom and dad considered Lindsey and I married. So did I. So did he. Now Lindsey and I don't speak at all. It's a sad way to end a long, wonderful relationship.

At first, Stevie's Mom was vehemently opposed to her activities with the band. Late 1967, Linds and I went to her door to pick her up for a rehearsal once, and her Mom said "Why don't you boys just go to Vietnam?" (To me, that was like saying "why don't you go to hell!") It was funny, but also chilling. The Vietnam War was not a pretty sight, and much more dangerous a place than Bosnia or the Gulf War because it lasted so long, involved so many troops. Later, I think Stevie's Mom kinda "chilled out," to use a colloquial. Brian's folks were ambiguous about his involvement. Bob's parents were supportive, as were mine. My parents always supported my musical activities. Lindsey's parents were very supportive. The first couple of years, we rehearsed out of Lindsey's garage. Lindsey's Mom made lemonade or was just plain gracious. Thanks to Mr & Mrs Buckingham, we always had a place to rehearse, to meet, to watch TV, after practicing, etc. Not that we overdid our stay or anything. We may have gone swimming in the pool once or twice, not that much. We tried not to impose too much upon his family. Despite the different economic and social realities, we got along quite famously.
