Default Impatient Aussie considering attending a January concert

With every day I get even more impatient to see and hear Fleetwood Mac live, all five, for the very first time. I'm not sure I can wait until November when they are due out in Sydney!

Considering going to the New York Madison Square Garden concert on 22/1/2015 or 1/22/2015 as you Yanks would write.

Where is somewhere affordable but still decent to stay in New York? Just thinking about going off on a whim. Not sure if I will do it or not but the fantasy is just part of the fun.

I have some cash to play with ...don't want to stay more than 2 weeks, would do some sight seeing and wouldn't spend much time at the hotel so it doesn't have to be amazing. $200 US or less per night would be good, ideal would be $100 US per night but I'm probably dreaming there!

Backpacker style accommodation/lodges are fine also.

What do the New Yorkers here recommend? I'd like to keep within a budget of say $2500 - $3500 for 1.5 - 2 weeks not inclusive of return airfares, just accommodation and spending money.

Suggestions on what to do, where to go, who to see?

Thank you!

I am not a New Yorker but do travel there frequently. January is one of the cheapest months for a hotel. Look at hotels.com to get an idea of pricing and then check the hotels website directly. You will easily be able to get something under $200.

That sounds like so much fun! I am also not a New Yorker, but I have stayed in a couple of hostels, and they were just great. It's so easy to get around NYC because of public transportation. I've also stayed in a pod hotel, which was good. Enjoy yourself!

It may be more cost effective to stay in NJ (Only a few Km from MSG) which is just over the river.

And dress warmly as -15c temps are possible that time of year in NYC.

Come on over and make a vacation out of it like I do with Stevie/FM concert tours. If you can afford both of those dates .Do both.Enjoy .

Mac probably will be petered out by the time they tour down under later.I hope they wont be.Personally I hate winter tours due to the cold and bad weather.Thats me.

If Mac or Stevie was only touring in Aussie and NZ.I would love to fly over and see them and see your beautiful country.

We are the lucky country! Looking forward to the Darling Harbour fireworks on New Years Eve, only four days to go now! Hopefully I will catch the train into the city and see it up close...we are just over an hour away from the city where I live. The local train station is also my last name.

Pink, aka Alecia Beth Moore did a huge tour of Australia in 2013. She actually does more shows here than she does in the USA because we are her bread and butter. Fleetwood Mac don't need to do more than 15 Australian shows and half a dozen New Zealand shows because they know where they really make their money is in North America - Canada and the USA.

I will patiently be doing my sums to make sure I can afford a holiday without damaging my abilities to pay for car insurance and other things. $1800+ as I am under 25 and seeking comprehensive car insurance, but my dad is happy to pay upfront if I commit to paying him back each month treating it like an interest free loan.
