My mum bought me Mick's book without my knowledge and at Gold Coast Airport in Queensland I bought a book to take home and maybe read on the plane back to Sydney.

I bought Mick's book. Mum saw it and made me take it back on the spot. Oops! Ruined that surprise! Silly James (me).

If someone wanted to get me a present related to Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey's bootleg Gift of Screws 1 would be ideal or if unavailable, Under the Skin or Gift of Screws or Seeds We Sow.

The best Christmas present would be official confirmation from Stevie Nicks that she is participating in the recording of a new studio album by Fleetwood Mac, that there is a teaser EP of four new songs due out by May 30, 2015 and that the full-length album of 14+ songs will be available after the November tour of Australia and New Zealand, on say, December 4, 2015.

That would be, I am sure, every Ledgie's Fleetwood Mac dream.

Too bad that is just my guess work, filling in gaps from publicly disclosed intelligence. Ah, dear.

Merry Christmas to all Ledgies, Fleetwood Mac fans everywhere and to everyone and everything in the world!

This post reminded me of a Mac item I'd completely forgotten that I have: the limited edition box set of Behind The Mask (containing no extra tracks but still pretty neat). Anyone have an idea of what this might be worth?

Behind the Mask is actually a decent album. I remember vividly waiting for its release and buying it in May 1990 (earth day to be exact). I have a memory like an elephant.

Half the songs on Behind the Mask are good to extremely good. The other half I could care less about. They took some chances like on In the back of my mind which worked well IMHO. But Rick Vito and Billy had some duds. BTM is the perfect example of the phrase "mixed bag."

The group was deeply disappointed with the album sales and only having one song crack the top 25. I wonder what would have happened if the album was extremely successful. Would that have kept that line up together a bit longer? Would that have prevented the Dance from happening in 1997.

There are no extra tracks of any kind in the limited edition box. The extra stuff is all in the packaging -- a nice lithograph photo, the box itself, and a different design on the CD itself.

BTM would be a decent album by another band, but I wanted more from a Mac album. There are three songs on it I still enjoy listening to today: the title track, Love Is Dangerous, and When The Sun Goes Down, the last of which has (to my ears) a very Lindsey-esque production sound. The rest of the tracks I can take or leave.

Interesting tid bit is the album barely made the top 20 in the USA but went to #1 in England and achieved platinum status there. Go figure
The reviews were really mixed too. Rolling Stone gave it 4 stars saying Rick Vito and Billy Burnette were the best things to happen to Fleetwood Mac while other reviews gave it one star.

I loved the tour though although they had such bad luck with canceling so many shows for reasons like when Chris's dad passed away and other things that happened in Europe. But they made up most of the shows in the USA.

I have an acquaintance who worked at Rolling Stone at that time, and I was told that the magazine went through several reviewers before finding one who would write a 4-star review for BTM.

I never cared for Rolling Stone reviews. They LOVED BTM and they LOVED Tango in the Night. These are probably my least favorite Mac albums. On the other hand they trashed Stevie's The Wild Heart which is probably her second best solo record. Its solid and strong not deserving of a one and a half star review.

But its ironic if you go back in time. Check out the Rolling Stone 1982 Rolling Stone interview "Fleetwood Mac, happy at the top." It claims every member of the Mac did the interview except for Nicks on the advice of her manager.
Stevie always held a grudge against Rolling Stone from the white album review that called her singing callow. It hurt her confidence in a new band.
