There will never be a new Fleetwood Mac album

I think it's about time we faced up to the reality that the chances of a new Fleetwood Mac album are slim to none. Many fans will remember Lindsey Buckingham talking about putting out a new Fleetwood Mac album after the 2009 tour. Obviously that never eventuated.

I don't know if any other Ledgies realise this, but Fleetwood Mac is very unlikely to make much money from the sales of a new album. I think realistically the best they can hope for is Gold sales status. Look at Say You Will, it's taken eleven years for it to reach Platinum sales status (or close to it).

From the band's point of view, they can make much more money from touring.

If they were serious about wanting to release a new album, then why not include two new songs in the current tour set list?

I don't know about anyone else but it drives me crazy hearing from the media that there are new Fleetwood Mac songs and knowing that I'm unlikely to ever hear them.

Why haven't they included Too Far Gone or How I Feel or Carnival Begin or Red Sun in the set?

I don't think the band would release an album without Stevie songs on it and as she appears to have no interest in working in the studio with the band:

The best we can hope for is a new solo Lindsey album and a new solo Christine album.

Let's not try scaring people with the name of our threads! Your thread title is like "Christine is dying" and then you write something like "Lets face it, they are all going to die one day

Anyway, Lindsey just said in some interview that stevie will come in and lindsey has been writing recently! They're not in the setlist because they are not done yet (have you heard the early live version of GYOW? eeek!) they aren't done yet and people don't one unfinished music.

I understand and appreciate you expressing your feelings, but it doesn't seem right to post your opinion as fact. "Will there ever be a new album?" would have be more appropriate.

The best we have to hope for is the patience to wait. In the world of Fleetwood Mac, nothing happens quickly, so our expectations are just planned disappointments.The speculation ofwhat they will do/should do scenarios can (and will) go on endlessly until the tour finally ends.

I'm happy for the legions of fans who are getting to see the group back together with Christine. But when the tour is over, all that we will have left are memories (and probably a pricey commemorative DVD/CD of one of the shows). Lindsey calls this a "profound" chapter in the band--but I call it a snap judgment and shameless move motivated by money.

As artists, I would assumed their desire to create and record a new album would overrule embarking on a huge tour, less than a year from their last tour of redundancy. This would have allowed Stevie time/space to promote her album, letting her feel less constrained by group demands, and making her more amenable to working on a new Fleetwood Mac album, which could be released and toured in the spring of next year. As I've said before, a show is just a fleeting moment in time, but an album is timeless. Which one would you prefer?

I respectfully disagree. I think there will be one more Fleetwood Mac studio album with the Rumours 5. Though it may not happen until 2016, I think this project will see the light of day.

I think 24 Karat Gold is the LAST SOLO ALBUM that Stevie owed Warner/Reprise Records. I think the release of that album has fulfilled her contract with them. As far as record labels go, she may be a free agent soon. I just read the other day she said that this record was made simply to fulfill an "obligation" to her record company. Whether or not she will want to head into the studio with Mac next year is anyone's guess. This woman changes her mind like the weather. BUT, I think she'll give in late next year and decide to contribute three new songs to a MAC record.

Why are you just making this just about money? And do you think they're stupid? They know the state of the industry. Most artists these days aren't making the majority of their money from albums, but they're making them anyway. Lindsey and Christine obviously had a fantastic time working together again. It seems they are excited about CREATING together again. If they need money, they'll just tour (like they're doing now, grossing almost $2 Million a show).

Except for maybe Mick, I don't think they're just driven by how much an album will sell. Maybe for their own artistic integrity they would just like to put out another project because they're artists.........

I firmly believe there will be one last album from the band. This whole process of airing dirty laundry and public insinuations is classic, classic Fleetwood Mac. These kids have been drama queens since day one. 40+ years on, they're even more stubborn due to all the years of money, fame, power, and now they're old curmudgeons on top of all that. Of course recording an album wouldn't be easy or drama free. All the same, I don't think a one of them wants to close the book on the band without one last album. If the Eagles could pull it off, so can these guys. Not just that- since the Eagles put out one final album, you know the Mac will follow suit. This is why Christine came back, after all- so the band could put a nice neat bow on their history.

I completely agree. And I'm glad someone else agrees with me on the "public insinuations". I've seen a lot people arguing that these artists would never purposefully cause controversy and drama in the media to draw up interest in their projects...but it's what they've ALWAYS done. Why is this so unbelievable to people???

They want to put out an album because they have all of the foundations of it pretty much done. They just need Stevie to contribute.

I hate it when people say about the album 'going Gold'. Have you seen the Billboard charts lately?

Veteran acts like them don't sell 500,000 copies of a new studio album anymore. Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers' new album sold about 250,000 copies and that included extra sales from concert tickets.

Pink Floyd's new album has sold approximately 220,000 copies in three weeks and they're a big selling album act. The album has plummeted as of today and is at #25 showing that the only way is down from now.

This new album if it does come out eventually, will debut at around #3 with strong first week sales of around 100,000, but after that it'll die and will sell around 200,000 copies +. It may be a different story in the UK however as album sales here for them are very strong and they are ALWAYS on the album charts. I think the album could sell around 100,000 copies here and would almost certainly go to #1.

The days of a new studio album going 'Gold' is extremely rare nowadays I'm afraid!

I personally think this is a can of rubbish. They would be stupid if they decided not to try to put out out one last album. I'm sure they'll make it happen, despite any push back from Stevie, or whatever it might be. And yes, I would watch this soap opera too, on what my father used to call the idiot box!

What the band has always done is talk to each other through the media. I don't really think they've made a point of purposefully causing controversy and drama to generate interest in their projects, from third parties.

For instance, although the Rumours soap opera garnered a lot of publicity, to say the very least, when they were promoting Tusk, they didn't pretend to be in conflict to sell Tusk. In fact, they tried to appear more unified than they actually were about Tusk, in the media.
