They left Lindsey off the list of the greatest 100 guitarists of all time!!!!!! How can they keep doing this? He can play circles around some of those people they have in there!
Peter Green did make the list! Yes! Congrats, Peter!

Rolling Stone has covered Lindsey very well and they gave a great review on his solo album, OOTC. But on this subject of guitarist, they really have their heads up their asses and I hope everyone writes to the editor letting it be known that they messed up big time!

Why did they have to make it an even hundred? They should have left the rankings out of it. I guess it sells better that way though.

Anyone who takes the time to read this idiot issue will realize that the choices are ALL over the the map and have no basis in REAL value.
Look at the magazine. Start at 100 and read to number one. It is sooooooo "I'm in need of therapy"!!!! I really think those Rolling Stone editors are sunk in anti-depressants. I'll admit that Jorma Kaukonen is good, but not at the level RS placed him. The candidates are alllll over the map AND not good. Joni Mitchell at # 72?!?!?!? Her "essential recording" {for guitar, I'm assuming} is listed as "All I Want" ... HELLO?!?!?! "For The Roses", et. al.?!??!?!?? She ****ing invented today's "singer-songwriter" guitar playing- along with James Taylor, who isn't even on the "100" list (another blaspheme). Jack White at # 17?!?!?!? IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!! Neil Young was listed at # 83...... Joan Jett is at #87 (four points lower) with a bio and picture.... AAARRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! The whole thing makes me sick..... |

This was a desperate last-ditch effort to quickly regain some actual musical credentials with the few remaining music fans that read their magazine.
Look at the last three issues. First, Clay The Half Woman Aiken. As if there wasn't enough outrage about putting a half-decent karaoke singer on the cover of their magazine, then they follow that cover by putting a very below-average (although much less disgusting) karaoke singer on their cover. The article was interesting about Ruben though. I got a little bit of info about his musical background, and about his overconsumption of Taco Bell. Maybe that's why he weighs 692 pounds. It went into some serious detail about his meals. I'd feel guilty about spacing out ONE of his feasts throughout the whole day. Then he says "I guess this is just how I am." Good excuse, lardass. That was already as low as they could go. But wait! THEN they put the fu!king OLSEN TWINS on the cover! By now I think they've lost the vast majority of their readers. They only kept me because I have a free subscription for two years. They had to do something, and fast! This was the cheapest and most generic way they could somehow look like they're still a music magazine. Picking Jimi Hendrix was a little bit obvious, wasn't it? Of COURSE they're going to pick something easy like that. Eric Clapton at #3? I mean yeah, he's no slouch, but a tad overrated if you ask me. Ry Cooder better than Jimmy Page? Give me a BREAK! I also think it's extremely hilarious that hacks of the like of John Fruciante, Jack White, Johnny Ramone, and Warren Haynes are considered better players and more important in history than innovators like Steve Howe (I expected his low 69 placement, though undeserved), Eddie Van Halen (at number SEVENTY????) and Dave Gilmour, at a rather pathetic 82! That punk Dereck Trucks came just above him at 81. What the hell has he done? An Allman Bros album and a solo album? Lou Reed above Blackmore? This whole entire list is a joke! I think it was done via in-office poll. ![]() |

Rolling Stone is one of the magazines in the waiting room in Hell.
I'm peeved about Lindsey not being ON the friggin list AND David Gilmour being in the 80's!!!! ![]() BUT....this is crap and everyone out there seems to know it, just check out the hilarious (albeit, filthy) posts on the message board. ![]() There are some OTHER outraged peeps who are mad about Lindsey being screwed over as well as Slash from GnR. Maybe WE should all try to compile our own list of greatest (or favorite since the word GREATEST is how WE perceive things) guitarists. ![]()

As for Lindsey being left off, it's stupid and reprehensible, but not at all surprising. He gets left off these kind of lists all the time, yet he's referred to as a "genius" in other articles in the same magazines. I'm sure the RS editors are being deluged by letters complaining about these rankings, and I hope they print a few regarding Mr. Buckingham. But what are you going to do? Just shows you what the music industry, and the world are coming to. ![]()

In the years to come, I'm sure that people will be talking about The Red Hot Chilli Peppers in general and NOT John Frusciante's brilliant playing. As far as not having to play a twiddly guitar solo to be important, that's right, but you they at least should have made some decent music to back up their non-existant chops. Ramone, Reed, Frusciante and White, (is jon spencer in the list?) are all picks that I can live with, because they are not specific stringacrobats but do something very special musically. And the same for Lee and Thurston. (When I heard Come in concert it really reminded me of them.) The weird thing is, Lindsey combines the skils of all of them, is an influencial songwriter, has his own style, even plays a weird axe, and is a stringacrobat, too. He's just too complete. Let's keep him for ourselves, and let the rest of the world buy the new Mark knopfler record. They'll sleep for another millenium. And now I'm thinking of it. I don't WANNA wake them up. ![]()

Frusciante and Lindsey are similar players in that they're all about servicing the song, not just showing off (except for maybe "Come" ). In fact, I read a review of the last RHCP album By the Way (which I recommend highly, it's great California pop) that said Frusciante must've been listening to Lindsey when they recorded the album. As for the list, I bet when they print the letters to the editor in the next RS, there will be at least 2 that mention Lindsey's ommission as a travesty. I just read the whole thing the other day, and it was pretty much a joke. I love the White Stripes, but Jack White doesn't even deserve to be in the top 80, let alone the top 20.
