Exactly. She is so plain and direct in the way she speaks to her fans. It actually feels like you're sitting in the room with her. She's not trying to impress you. She's just saying what's on her mind. Cool lady.

Wow.I love these commentaries .Right to the point .I'm so proud of her of coming out and speak about these issues.
I've been watching Mabel's movies on YT the other night.I'm a fan of hers and others from that era . She's a natural beauty . I love old classic Hollywood movies and actors and actresses. They have class.

love how she refers to herself as a "natural beauty". Humble much? She's so funny, because she's so totally clueless at how awful that would sound coming from most people's mouths about themselves….

Knowing that "Mabel" is Stevie's favorite on the album makes me hopeful that we'll get some really rockin' live versions of it in the future.

Right and that's exactly why she can pull off saying something like that...because she speaks about herself, Stevie Nicks, as if it's another person. She has this ability to put distance between the person who is giving the interview at that very moment and the famous rock star Stevie Nicks. It's a very cool thing. And I think she does the same thing in many of her songs, describing an experience that she actually had but wording it so it sounds like it's about someone else.

She's very pure in her intentions, and I admire her passion and applaud her honesty. Yet I find it kind of odd when she talks about these " very important" songs and believes they can serve as public service announcement
Her messages songs, as she thinks of them, are so obtuse and mired in her own reality, they have very little definition. They are self-important to herself. And to think any song (especially one of hers) is going to prevent drug use and abuse is somewhat delusional. I like her peculiar out there songs, not for any particular message, but because they are uniquely Stevie.

Huffington Post, by Jessica Goodman, October 1, 2014
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/1...n_5912492.html Stevie Nicks' New Track 'Mabel Normand' Is A Brutal Look At 'What Drugs Can Do To You' Stevie Nicks' new album, "24 Karat Gold," is made up of "songs from the vault," tracks she wrote in the '70s and '80s, but never fully recorded or released. In video commentary for the track "Mabel Normand," debuting at HuffPost Entertainment, Nicks explains how and why she wrote the dramatic song about Normand, a silent movie star who died in 1930. Nicks was inspired by the actress after she saw a documentary, which portrayed Normand's life as a cocaine addict. "She was really walking on the edge for a lot of her life," Nicks said. "And I was walking on the edge, too." She wrote the track in 1985 and remembered, "1984 into 1985 was a dangerous year in my life. I definitely could have died." Nicks tried and tried to get this song made, but said no one could tackle it until now. "It was really important to me to get this song out. It's really about what drugs can do to you." Nicks explained how the song and Normand made her realize it was time to kick her own drug habit and go to rehab: "I, unlike Mabel, managed to get a hold of it." |

Of no concern to true fans who can view it in context. Anything that is outside the box shouldn't have universal appeal anyway. Some people will love it, and others will love to hate it.
The more I listen to it, the more I hear a Lou Reed/Velvet Underground quality to it. It has that non-linear structure, and long singing/talking narrative style. Brilliantly Edgy!
