The reality is copyright laws are somehow simultaneously selective & indeterminate ... You can't really sue for using the same instrumental "idea" as someone else's song, if the melody/lyrics/chord progression (but really the chord progression isn't protected, either) are different.
The Ashcroft song is more far reaching than the previous, but Illume heavily borrows from the instrumental "idea" of this song.

"You can't really sue for using the same instrumental "idea" as someone else's song, if the melody/lyrics/chord progression"

True.

Yet again, though...shall not judge until the full song is available. But that's just my first impression. Something seems a bit off kilter.
Totally. The "til his dying day not even he himself can change this" is sung soooooooo drawn out. It's like she's moving thru molasses, or running in slow motion….. I loved the acoustic guitar on the demo (take 1) and hope at least that aspect of that is in this new version.

I think the demo had a real sense of wistfulness and a sort of pain of lost love. This version sounds too slick, she doesn't sound as engaged with the words. It sounded more like a fresh wound in the demo; now all these years later it sounds more like a 'performance'…. if that makes any sense.

And thanks to those who posted the link to the Mark Knopfler song. This version really does sound a lot like it. Now I'm curious AND nervous to hear the full version.

This one is jusk 'ok" IMO..there are several snippets including this one that sound kind of like AC filler so I will reserve my judgement until I hear the full songs.Who knowsI didn't think that much of the 24KG snippet and the full song turned out to be one the of gems of her solo career.

Well said. That's often the case with Stevie, it seems, that she created these songs when the emotion was present instead of past, and sometimes the feeling that made a song so great is completely lost.

I'm looking at you, Smile At You.

she seems to have been itching to get a flute on a record since the flute on her demo of Silver Girl got canned

Ashcroft is Illume.

The demo always sounded small to me. I think I'm really going to like the final product.

I really like the demo - sweet, lovely song. It's so hard to tell again from this 10sec clip, but I have a feeling I'll like the new version too.

I like a lot of Mark Knopfler's work, so I'm pleased to hear she was influenced by that

Don't forget the similarities between Silver Girl and Richard A's I Get My Beat....

She seems to have been heavily influenced by his 2000 release Alone With Everybody. And why not? It's one of the most underrated records of this century.

Default it's nice..

I love the demo of "She Loves Him Still" - one of my favorites. I think the snippet is ok, but I'm hoping the complete version will capture the tender and gentle heartbreak of this song. We will see very, very soon.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure it's going to be great but the innocence of her voice in the demo is what made that one of my all time favorites.

She Still Loves Him got me through some very tough times, so I was very apprehensive about this one. Nevertheless, I sort of like this. I am very very very nervous though, because of 1) the flute 2) that last bit where she turns the "still" into a run.. I don't know, I really want to like it, but I am nervous.
