I first heard Stevie's original demo for this song about 17 or 18 years ago, and it's been one of my favorites ever since. This clip sounds beautiful. Stevie's vocal is soft and lovely, and the instrumentation is sweet and simple. Just the way it should be.

Now I'm chomping at the bit even more than ever to hear the full track.

It's going to be a "Country" hit...If not by Stevie then by whoever covers it...

The snippet is up... The 24 karat gold song downloads are being emailed... Whoever called in sick at Warners yesterday must be feeling a lot better today!

Yes, this.

Once we have the album in our hands, it will be interesting to see if the music is at all different from the demo (what we hear in the snippet sure sounds the same) and whether or not Mr. Knopfler has a writing credit.

No. In fact, I heard it here on The Ledge. I think it was said that Stevie sent him a copy of the song and he sent her a cease and desist letter in response, but I have no other source for this that The Ledge.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing.

We'll this is one of her demos that I've actually never been able to get all the way thru, I dislike it so much. I've tried about 3times and then another 2 recently since I found out it was on the album. Still cant get thru it. I already like this 15 seconds a little better just because I'm a sucker for flutes. we'll see when the whole thing is released if I can finally make it thru this song.

Forsaken Love would've been a much better choice then this song!

Still not crazy about the demo lol but the clip makes me hopeful. A more complete arrangement, is exactly what this needs.

After finding an earlier post about this, I had to do some research out of curiosity. This sounds a lot like it may be the Mark Knopfler song. "Irish Boy" from 1984 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_BxMB_QkvM .

Oh, yeah, that's definitely the song that at least inspired "She Loves Him Still," down to the flute and everything…..

I'm guessing "borrowing" instrumentals is pretty common for Stevie (EO17, Illume) I'm surprised she hasn't gotten sued actually.

as one of the lone SA supporters on this board ... i like that era and her voice.
i do not like jane (the outtake yes, not the album version) this demo or the snippet but not for any SA relevance or lack of.
it sounds boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring and slow
it does remind me of Jane a bit. not

What did Stevie borrow from the Ashcroft song? Nothing sounds familiar on it to me, but I also may just be crazy/deaf lmao.

The reality is copyright laws are somehow simultaneously selective & indeterminate ... You can't really sue for using the same instrumental "idea" as someone else's song, if the melody/lyrics/chord progression (but really the chord progression isn't protected, either) are different.
