Doesn't the story go that while staying with the Nicks' for the holidays she didn't know any Christmas songs so she played them "Carousel"...

Yes, that is what I heard as well. Stevie asked Vanessa to play a Christmas carol and Vanessa replied that she did not know any because she was Jewish. Stevie then asked her to play a Jewish Christmas carol.....
The Carousel song is what Vanessa offered up instead.

Here is a link to the YouTube video that has the Nicks' Christmas story about the Carousel song. I think it helps to show how much the song means to Stevie. I'm new at this posting stuff so hopefully the link comes through clearly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tXWvRpbjxE

I wonder if Vanessa will get any royalties from having her song covered on Stevie's album?

What's baffling to me is that fans are having a hard time grasping that Stevie wrote a song in 1981 titled "Carousel" and then in 2014 covered a different song with the same title( "carousel" ) written by another artist...The fact the 2 songs share the same title is probably just a coincidence...How many songs with the title "Lady" are there???
It's a bit baffling to me as to why it would be included on an album of "vault" songs. But maybe it's really just an important song to her. Maybe she wanted to record it for IYD and didn't, and so it feels like a "vault" song to her.

I like the song, so I'm happy about it, it just seems extremely out of place on this record.

Yes thank you, this was my intention. I can't wait to see what the liner notes for this one are..

I'm just saying it is probably just something dippy that she said but without malice aforethought.

Vanessa seems like a sweet young girl. Best of luck to her.

I haven't heard Vanessa's version, but I like what I'm hearing with the snippet. But yeah, count me in as those who think it's a little odd to have a cover song on an album that's supposed to be all about vault songs. And it's not like this one was set to be a bonus track, as it's on the regular album.

But hey, as long as it sounds good, that's all I really care about.

I don't like Vanessa's voice. Never got into her music. But the song sounds okay with Stevie singing it.

If this was a regular album, I wouldn't mind if Carousel was on it. Stevie has included other peoples song's on all her previous albums.
But if an album is titled '24KG Songs From The Vault', and it's being promoted as demo's that weren't officially recorded before, one would think that it is mainly comprised of said demo's, no? No. And this is why it strikes me as being odd.

And I'm still not understanding why Twisted is on there. Third time's a charm?
Stevie could have recorded two other demo's in their place.
Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll make 24KG: part 2. Some of those songs are too good to be left in the vault!
