I totally agree, after watching her commentary regarding the video & that it was about her & Lindsey moving to LA, trying to make it in the music industry---you'd think she would have had that as the theme of the video. A young couple--they move to L.A. & try to make it in the music industry. That would have been cool and then they could have went to clips of Stevie singing in a nightclub in the present with all her fans around---showing that her dreams came true. Would have been much more interesting. Nice song, pretty theater but boring video.

Good. It's not worth it to stick with something that clearly makes you so miserable.

I like the video. It's spare and simple, like the song.

I think the song is great, and I'm really glad it's getting great press (#5 on Must List in EW), but I would agree with some that the song is about 1 verse too long.

So the one question I have, which I wish she would have addressed in the interview about the song, is why didn't it make Buckingham Nicks? Or any of the solo albums? I can see why it would have been out-competed on most of the Fleetwood Mac albums, but why didn't it make Tango - it's better than "When I See You Again" and "Welcome to the Room...Sara". I guess maybe they just didn't think to include it?

I did chuckle at that comment.

Good point. As much as some Ledges BITCHED up a storm about the gloves, its amazing now to see her not wearing them going without comment. LOL

Great idea. With a little tweaking, and a creative producer, the video could be much better. But it serves its purpose, without a big investment of time and money. It was done quickly, much like album itself. Ultimately, the music itself is more of a priority than a promo video.

I sorta feel that for the amount of time she doesn't have to work on stuff like this, that we're lucky we're getting videos for any "vault" songs.

Also, how many of you would have believed anyone a year ago who said the next Stevie Nicks video was Knocking On Doors?

Finally, I'll reiterate that I generally like it. I like how tall she looks, I like the big panoramic theatre shots, and I like the clips of Dave Stewart at the piano.

I actually actively dislike this video. Not because it's "boring" or "bad" (let's face it, most of Stevie's videos are both of those things) but because for me it really dramatically reduces the impact of the song. This sort of song relies on you feeling it with Stevie as she's singing, and if you listen to it while watching her "perform" the song in this video, with its rather silly choreography and no indication that she is connecting with the words of the song in any way, you are completely robbed of that. The whole thing just comes off like seeing an 8 year old performing in a school musical who has no concept of what they're actually singing about. She's not feeling anything at all in this video and it totally takes the heart out of the entire song when you watch it.

E for effort, Dave. But next time have footage of her truly singing, or take the video in another direction entirely with no pretend performance.

I feel this way about the lyric video, that it greatly reduces the impact of the song. I like The Dealer lyric video and feel that it adds to the song, but for me the Lady lyric video does the opposite. The song itself it just so beautiful to listen to, any video is going to be a distraction from that sound. It's going to be one of those songs that I just want to listen to, with no visuals. I personally feel this theatre video is a huge improvement on the lyric video.

I really didn't have a problem with the lyric video at all. To me it more or less fit the mood of the song and left a lot to the imagination. Seeing dark lyrics like "the sun keeps throwing out the light from the clouds, but there's no light in here" sung by a woman swaying side to side and then patting her belly is a different thing entirely.

I can see what you mean, but I don't find those lyrics, or the song, to be particularly dark. Stevie has her fair share of dark songs, but to me, this isn't one of them. There is "no light in here" at that moment, but you have no idea about the future "you don't need to see" - as in stop worrying about the future and stop imagining it will be the same, it will be ok. If that makes any sense...

I find it to be a soothing and hopeful song. I love the image of the "light from the clouds" reminding us there is light, even when things seem dark.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be argumentative I just love this song, and interested in interpretations of it.

Default Symbolism

Sorry if this has already been mentioned...I think the empty theatre setting is very symbolic of the song's message...At that point in her career she and Lindsey had no audience to speak of, so they kind of were playing and singing to nobody. Just a thought. I'm starting to enjoy this ultra simplistic video more and more.

Yes she appears sort of lost for things to do standing there. Patting the belly, knocking on air doors, trying not to flub the lip synching.
