We plugged my phone into Sam's car aux output so we could hear it.

...it was a punch in the gut. Damn. We sat in silence as it played through. Over halfway through, I look at Sam, who is in tears (definitely feeling the "lyrics" and thinking about some of the heavy things going on in her personal life.) and that set off my tears. We were just silent the rest of the way home. We listened to it two more times.

I just downloaded it now from iTunes and listened a few more times with my headphones on. It's still a punch in the gut! I don't give a damn if her vocals are "strained" at parts (it's not like that's a bad thing) but this woman is singing with more passion and feeling than I've heard come out of her in A LONG TIME! She is feeling this! She is feeling this memory, these old emotions come and gone from years ago. This is the passion we all knew she still had, but has been holding back for some strange reason for so long.
Great post. I think we are all feeling the same way, verging on unanimously. Which virtually never happens! But why?? Well, when was the last time Stevie really gave us chills like this?! That yearning, vulnerable desperation in her voice. And yet still leave us with that silver lining, that glimmer of hope, or faith - "Maybe you don't have to see"

These are the moments fans like us live for, and stick around hoping to catch a glimpse here & there. It's been since the 70s (live Rhiannon performances, "Silver Springs", her Tusk songs, & ALL her backing vocals, esp. with W.Egan, J.Stewart & T. Snow) - and then came The Wild Heart - where her ragged, vibrato belt was on display in full splendor, and to some degree (but more scarred) on RAL.

This is why I listen. Nobody moves me like Stevie Nicks. Sometimes it's her lyrics. Sometimes it's a vocal. But, when it's both, It's pure Stevie magic! Make no mistake about it, scarred voice and all, this is a rare moment in a 21st century Stevie Nicks recording. Dare I say *masterpiece*. Not only is this song universal. This is true artistry, like inexpressible colors, the image of a painting, that you can't explain with simple words: It simply touches your soul. And ultimatley, this is the basis of why Stevie transcended above the rest of FM. While "they" were perfecting their studio craft, Stevie was stirring the listeners soul. Yeah, they needed each other, but, I don't think "they" will ever admit just how much they needed Stevie.

Possibly, the only element that may have elevated this recording is *maybe* some very subtle strings on the final chorus through the ending. Nontheless, this song is pretty perfect. I'm so proud of Stevie. I'm so proud to be a Stevie fan right now.

Her vocal style is very bluesy. Love it!

Exactly.
At this point I'm wondering if we were mistaken as this single part of the WB package? Maybe the WB preorder only came with The Dealer download and its the iTunes preorder that came with several single downloads?

I'm confused at this point. If those of you that emailed WB could post here if you hear back from them that'd be great.

Nah, the WB pre-order confirmation email references three digital singles "TBD." They're probably just slow on getting everything together. They had to launch those two Prince albums today too.

I also noticed that the pending charge is gone from my bank account... I only ordered the vinyl from my debit/credit card - my mom put the litho bundle on a major credit card. I haven't received any cancellation emails though. Think I'm still in the clear?

How annoying. I spent the most money at Warner and get the worst service. Spent nothing to order the pre-order album on iTunes and get full tracks little by little for a buck thirty. Warner is just a slug.

iTunes has been a bit of a pain for me. It had disabled the purchase link for Lady (it just said "pre-ordered" where you would normally buy it), and there was no download option. I had to buy it from the standard (non-deluxe) version to actually get the song.

Weird. I got the email from iTunes at midnight, but the track popped down a little before the email. I wonder why you had an issue? Were you trying to pull it before iTunes "official" email alert of the new track?

On another note, the type of marketing angle being done for this album is also exactly being handled for a couple other artists I bought pre-order albums with:
Robert Plant
Train

So evocative of the early 70's.
Like an old Leon Russell, Billy Joel, or Elton John classic.
She's on a roll. And sounding exactly like she deserves
to sound: pure and raw.

The vocal sounds like a live one-taker.
Happy she's abandoned the crap over-produced
sound of Rock a Little or OSOTM.

Yes indeed. And note that those moments are on emotionally compelling ballads. We get to hear the voice and the emotion.

Stevie Nicks previews new single 'Lady'

Robert Rheubottom
Canada Music Examiner
August 24, 2014

Stevie Nicks fans can check out a new clip of her upcoming single "Lady." The track is the Fleetwood Mac star's latest preview offering from her upcoming solo album titled, 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault.

The two-time Grammy winner posted the teaser audio clip on Aug. 24 at her official Facebook page. The 15 second clip unveils a verse of the soul searching ballad and features the singer-songwriter's sultry vocals accompanied by a simple piano arrangement.

The song, also know by the title "Knocking on Doors," evolved from a 5:30 minute demo, which was written and recorded during sessions for Buckingham Nicks in the early 1970s, which never made the album. "Lady" will be the follow up to the album's debut single "The Dealer" and will be released on Aug. 25 and available in digital format. Click here for more details.

The enduring pop diva rearranged and re-recorded the demo in the studio and has included it among 14 songs on "24 Karat Gold." The album is a collection of self-penned songs, which the pop diva recorded over the years, but never released on an album. Co-produced by Nicks along with ex-Eurythmics co-frontman Dave Stewart and longtime Nick's bandmember and session guitarist Waddy Wachtel, the tracks were newly recorded in Nashville and mixed in Los Angeles.

Nicks previously previewed five other tracks from the album earlier this month, including "The Dealer," "If You were My Love," "Mabel Normand," "Belle Fleur" and "All the Beautiful Worlds." "24 Karat Gold" is available for pre-order and will be released Oct. 7 on the Reprise label. Click here for more information.

The diminutive songstress will hit the road this fall with the reunited Fleetwood Mac classic line-up, which will include the newly rejoined Christine McVie. The tour kicks off the tour in on Sept. 20 in Minneapolis, Minneapolis, at Target Centre and wrap up in on Dec. 14 in Dallas, Texas, at American Airlines Centre. For more information, click here.

Did you know? 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault is Stevie Nicks 10th solo album and a follow up to her highly successful 2011 studio album In Your Dreams.
