It's interesting... Barbra Streisand launched an Instagram last week and today announced a new album, too, though it's coming out 3 weeks before 24KG. I know Barbra and Stevie are definitely different types of artists with different appeals, but the common denominator is that they're older women with greater appeal to older audiences. However, it's like night and day seeing how Barbra's social is being handled. It's what this campaign really should be for Stevie.

In less than a week, she's racked up around 37,500 followers - Stevie's account has less than half of that and has been at it for almost 3 weeks. Babs has posted 3 pics with HUGE likes/comments in one week. Stevie's posted 1 press release image and 1 clip from a video available on YouTube in three weeks with moderate likes/comments. What's crazier is that you can't attribute Barbra's Instagram popularity to good integration with her Facebook (although that's run way better than Stevies) - she barely has half of the Facebook fans that Stevie does.

The power of social media, people. I really, really hope they follow through on this Instagram campaign. There's so much potential and it's so incredibly easy to take advantage of.

The Barbra Streisand IG phenomenon got me puzzled. I'm a huge Streisand fan and have followed her career very closely... I don't know where all these fans are coming from, they certainly are not on Tumblr and they aren’t as numerous on Facebook, not to mention the Streisand message board isn't half as popular as The Ledge and it doesn’t get that many visitors.
I really don’t get it.
Streisand is a control freak so it comes as no surprise this is being very well handled by her camp. (Though a couple of dozen die hard fans managed to put their hands on one of the songs today.)

I really wish Stevie would take advantage of her Instagram account right now.

i dont care if Stevie doesn't "run" her instagram
but for god's sake at least make it personal and say "oh hai, this is Stevie, Karen is posting this for me coz you know I don't do technology"
post a pic of her dog or her pool or her carrot collection i dont care

i like that Stevie's accounts aren't linked
as long as they're all maintained.

i only go to FB through links posted on twitter, if i need to read the whole thing
instagram is awesome coz you dont need to caption or write anything if you dont want
let the pic do the talking
and a hashtag or 5

give Stevie a camera and let Karen import all her photographic artwork to IG
a pic a week or something

Things could always be better, but they're doing more than they have before with social media.

I saw a few reports in the news about Barbra Streisand joining Instagram, maybe that's why she's racked up so many followers in such a short space of time.

For as active as I would like her (or her team, or whatever) to be on social media, that she's even there is slightly miraculous, so there's not a lot of room for complaint.

That said, I wish they would follow through with what they say they're going to do (e.g. two previews per week, but we only got one last week, announcing the preview would be posted on Monday, then not posting until Tuesday).

It really is a snippet. I hope we get an official video soon to boost interest. A 15 second clip isn't enough. Hopefully we'll get another one this week. Her vocal is great though
