I think people are slightly missing the point here...

Stevie planned on taking the usual break for solo work after the FM tour and made plans
one of them being making a record "24K"(which we now know
she was under contract with WB to get done) and one would imagine
a tour in support of the new record
...
Stevie's fans have had this opportunity stolen from them...
Stevie's fans have waited as long time for
her to do something like this and now it (24 Karat Gold) is going to get
inadequate & limited promotion and NO TOUR!

This isn't about Stevie turning FM into a Stevie Nicks concert it's about compromise...
Stevie made a huge compromise when she told the band that she would tour with
FM instead of(compromise ) a solo tour in support of her new
record...
Stevie very easily could have told the band "You know what everyone
knows I have a contract and need to record an album for WB so I absolutely
have to get the album done and then I'm going to do a tour for it and once
I'm done with that we can do FM" but that's not what she did Stevie
compromised
so FM could have their "Reunion Tour" sooner rather than later...

Since Stevie went way out of her way so this reunion tour could happen and
gave up (compromise) a promotional tour for 24K just so the
FM fans could have what they have been waiting for is it to much to ask
that she be able to sing 1 or 2 of her new songs?

Mick, Lindsey and Christine all get to showcase their talents with a "solo"
why can't Stevie's little solo portion of the show be a song or two from her
new album?

I don't think it does. I think it means a fair amount to them and I don't think Mick was just happy to play on Stand Back. I think he recognized that his set needed the boost. I think it was a strategic decision to try to keep audience interest. When he's in his own band Mick plays anything. He'll play solo songs from his bandmates. He'll play FM. He doesn't care. But FM recognizes much stronger lines of demarcation.

And no, the fans that want FM to shake things up in their setlist are mostly fans that want deeper FM cuts. They just don't want new songs just for the sake of new songs. Otherwise, they'd be advocating that FM start doing covers in their sets and very few focused fans want that.

Exactly, but some people won't let themselves see it that way because they are bias.

I tend to agree with this statement and it makes sense. If "24 Karat Gold" had already been planned for release, why not let Stevie tour this fall to promote the solo record (while also laying down some vocal tracks for the new Mac album in between). The Mac tour seems a bit rushed. Why not finish the Mac record for a Summer 2015 release and schedule the "On With The Show" Tour for Fall of 2015 with some new music to promote? There is a conflict of interest going on here and I'm afraid that "24 Karat Gold: Songs From The Vault" is not going to receive the promotion it deserves, meaning a solo tour. While I AM more in favor of The Mac record with Christine McVie back in the fold, I feel that it could have waited until Stevie's solo project was properly promoted and the shelf life had run its course (next year).

Moreover, I'm also wondering if this will be Stevie's last record for Warner/Reprise and this solo album is being released to fulfill her contractual obligation. Did Warner/Reprise give Stevie a deadline to turn in the solo record?

Nonetheless, kudos to Stevie for trying to be "flexible" and work with the band in light of Christine's sudden whim to return. Consequently, I have no problem with songs from Stevie's NEW SOLO RECORD (24 Karat) being playing in the Fleetwood Mac set list this Fall. In addition, I feel that some of these new tracks would fit the Fleetwood Mac vibe a lot better than "Stand Back", which is very out of place in a MAC set list. So, bring on the "24 Karat" songs in "On With The Show".

Fair enough, but if they wanted really strong lines of demarcation, they wouldn't play Stand Back either. There are other ways to keep audience interest. There's always at least one Stevie-sung FM hit that goes unplayed while SB remains in the set. Also, I would be curious what the rationale is for including Go Insane . Does it serve a function that other Lindsey songs do not?

Oh, I know the preference is for FM deep cuts, and as I said I wasn't necessarily advocating for solo songs. But I personally wouldn't equate solo songs with covers. Maybe some Ledgies would, but I would much rather hear a fresh solo hit by any of them than a cover of another band's song.

I for one would be shocked if the band did one of Stevie's "new" songs at a FM show. Won't happen.

Yeah, that's not a possibility. Something to argue about, I suppose, but nothing that's going to happen.

FM doesn't have a lot of dance songs, especially not ones that people know. I would be fine if they used EFO, but the bulk of the audience would not. They don't see another way to keep the audience interest other than Stand Back. They think smacking it together with two Lindsey songs creates a huge reaction.

As for Go Insane, the rationale was that Lindsey put Big Love and Go Insane together in his solo set and it got a big reaction, so he strung them together for FM, figuring if it's not broke, don't fix it. He put those together with Sardonic World, because he was satisfied with the way it all went together solo, but FM dropped Go Insane years ago and I don't anticipate them bringing it back. So, it seems like a moot issue.

I kinda wish they'd do Hypnotized with Stevie singing. I know that'll probably never happen, but it seems like it could be an appropriate tribute to Bob Welch, and Lindsey does a version of Oh Well sometimes, so why not? My feeling is it would be better than another jesus-kabillion renditions of Landslide. I would at least approve of a small shakeup of the setlist, doesn't have to necessarily include anything from the new (or an old) Stevie solo record.

Great points, Blue Denim! At the very least Stand Back can stand back for this tour, in favor of a new/old song. Despite the "energy" factor many cite as a justification for it to stay in the set, as to imply all their shows prior to the inclusion of Stand Back were somehow lacking, well that's a bunch of bull sh*t. Fleetwood Mac shows were just fine long before Stand Back ever existed. No one is going to miss it. It's alright, It's alright.

Excellent post BlueDenim, but I have mixed feelings about this whole FM vs.Stevie tour.I think Stevie was under alot of pressure from both sides, and throw in her business woman self.I mean, she is the first one to say that FM should wait about 3 years between tours because if they just did a tour,no one would really miss them yet. However, she knows that she will capitalize much more on a FM tour due to the anticipation of Chris's return.I guess I feel this way because of her comments about how unhappy she was when "In Your Dreams" sold (in her eyes and mind) so little. In a nutshell I'm thinking that Stevie would much rather be touring to promote "24 Karat" but she knows a FM tour will satisfy her more financially.I know we all love her and see her as a rock queen, but she really is a savvy business woman too.

Stevie might miss it. She wants her share of songs in the set that bring that kind of reaction. She had Rhiannon in the old days, but that exorcism Rhiannon cost her long term and it's not the same triumph today when it's performed. So, now the song she has that makes people leap up at the opening note and still has them fanning themselves after it's over are Stand Back and GDW. Solo, she also has Edge too, but with FM she doesn't have the equivalent. I think she likes keeping a hot dance number in her selections.

She has other songs that the audience might also like. Seven Wonders might get enhanced attention after AHS, especially. But to keep a balance in the songs we get from her, so there's an even representation of soft, sultry, fast and loud, I think Stand Back is the only thing that works. The old SOTM would work too, but not the version we got on the last tour.

There's Landslide on one side of the scale, causing the audience to sway in unison. What's on the other? Aside from Edge, I don't think she has another song that can be her Don't Stop or GYOW.

I wouldn't care if Stand Back wasn't in the setlist. But I understand the needs that keep the band from dropping it. Michele

Very reasonable and insightful assessment! Wouldn't it be wonderful if Stevie writes and performs a new song for Fleetwood Mac, on par with Go Your Own Way or Don't Stop; one that rivals the impact of Stand Back. Then she can drop Stand Back!

It's not so much Stevie writing a song like that it's convincing the band that they should record / perform it...

She already did - it's called Everybody Finds Out.
