Unfortunately, Heroin is back in a big way. Lots of young people in the city I grew up in are losing their lives. It is a "stranger deja vu," for sure.

I just found it oddly coincidental that when Stevie was in rehab, they were filming a doc about Black Tar Heroin in California and that a group called Space Needle had a song in it.

And that the band Space Needle also had a song titled Dreams and there is a female vocal on the record that could pass for a distorted Stevie voice, yet no credit is mentioned about vocals. Plus, For What It's Worth was written for the person who saved her after rehab and of course, now I'm wondering if anyone from Space Needle was in rehab with her!!!!

I heard Neil Patrick Harris say to his groupie/roadie father (the other day on a rerun of whatever-the hell-the-name of that show is)

“You ever bang Stevie Nicks?”

If Stevie puts out Space Needle...I guaratee there will be some tweeks to the lyics and sequencing. Additions..subtractions or general modifications. Just like with POTU. Its a great demo...but meanders and can use some tightening. .

You are so right about that.

Stevie isn't very good when she writes topical songs outside of her usual navel-gazing realm. But Space Needle really does capture the dark side of the cultural history in the sixties: the music scene and the past tragedies resulting from heavy drugs. Now she's seeing history repeating itself.

One beef I have is a writing tic she has, which appears in many of her songs: the word "Remember." There is a lot of "remembering" in her lyrics, and she relies too much on that. I see it as a weakness - as an easy/lazy way to infer some sort of significance. It's somewhat ironic, given her propensity for not remembering some of the accurate details in her life.

But I'm a hypocrite for calling her out on that. My memory is shot. I sometimes don't remember what I did ten minutes ago, and have huge memory gaps in my life history. Somethings I'm happy not to remember.

Default Space Needle: Any Ideas?

I absolutely love this song, which sounds more like a finished outtake than a demo by Stevie Nicks.

Does anyone know which album this song was made for - is it a Street Angel outtake?

I love that album, by the way, especially Docklands and the title track and yes, Blue Denim too...Stevie's singing is quite good on the Street Angel album, at least equal to The Dance in my view.

So, Space Needle, what's it about? The trappings of fame and celebrity?

Depression?

When was it written?

When was it recorded?

Who is singing backup vocals?

Thanks guys! I really hope she releases this song in 2015 or 2016 on the new studio album by Fleetwood Mac.

She talked in her Facebook Q & A about wanting to do a Songs From the Vault II which would include Julia.

Have No Heart, Space Needle and Joan of Arc plus What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done for You would be groovy additions to Lindsey and Christine's existing batch of about twelve to fourteen new songs already.

I meant to post this in the Stevie Nicks forum...whoops!

Thanks for bringing this song back in the spotlight! It's one of her most intriguing unreleased songs. Most of your questions have been answered in previous posts.

The demo has a stark production that suites the song well, so it wouldn't need much tweaking for suitable release. It does need to be arranged and edited a bit. I think this is more suitable as a solo release, but it would be very interesting what Lindsey and Fleetwood Mac would do with it. Being that the song concerns social issues, I think it would appeal to him.

I doubt it would ever be officially released. But surprises are welcome. This is very topical to me; I'm going to visit friends in Seattle for New Years Eve. I might convince them to go to the Space Needle and have some drinks there. It offers a great view of the city.

Well, have fun in Seattle for New Year's Eve, mate!

I'm a Sydneysider and my gran has forbid her children and grandchildren from going to Darling Harbour to watch the fireworks at the Harbour Bridge. Why? Well, because of the Martin Place siege and murders a few weeks ago.

Some great songs written by Stevie Nicks about topical issues:

Illume (9-11) - terrorism and the public response
Touched by an Angel - HIV/AIDS and the process of dying
Space Needle - drugs and their long-lasting effects
New Orleans - Hurricane Katrina and the public response
You Can't Fix This - cocaine use and her son-in-law?
Street Angel - homelessness compared to her life of luxury
