Default Clue? What Demo Needs Strings

A Few Days Ago we got a Dave Stewart tweet that said there will be string parts on Stevie's album. What demo needs strings?

Which one doesn't would be a shorter list. Theoretically all of them could have strings added. They're demos because they are an unfinished song idea. While there are a handful of finished songs Dave could take the production on these in just about any direction.
I keep seeing people say that they don't know how well she could do justice to this song or that song now. Those songs that kept us going through that awful turn of the century dry spell were ideas. If she chooses to do China Doll or whatever then enjoy the finished product for what it is. People have been clamouring (yeah I said it) for her to do some of these songs for decades. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If she thinks that she can't do justice to some of the material and her fans don't like it then I don't want to hear people complain when she gets upset and decides to do Dave Matthews and Bonnie Raitt cover songs in the twilight of her career.

Agreed.

Or, Blue Water, or China Doll...

...or Forsaken Love.

One of the Rhiannon songs, or both-- Forest or 3 Birds would be fabulous with strings.

Joan of Arc....she could definitely still do it justice. WAAAAY better than the similar "Illume" or "Soldier's Angel" and has more depth of lyrics.

Quoted because of all the wisdom within! Thank you!

There is simply no way to speculate on which songs could have strings in their final product. Nobody anticipated the production choices we heard on Secret Love, which is really the precursor to this project. I'm hoping for a lot of wonderful surprises.

Hm. We'll have to agree to disagree. Personally I think fans unconsciously judge demos very differently than they do released tracks. There is some good stuff going on in Joan of Arc, but I think if it had ever actually made it on to an album people would be much more quick to judge it as the rambling mess that it essentially is, rather than the lost gem it is so often purported to be. I can't wrap my head around the idea that it's in any way superior to Illume or SA.

I see what's you're saying, and agree with you. "Joan Of Arc" to me, feels like a TITN song that is 90% finished. All the instrumentation is there, yes. But I feel if Linds and Chris had done some harmonies and maybe some guitar flourishes in overdubs, it would have been a stellar song. It would have trumped "Welcome To The Room, Sara" and "Wassa Mattah Beybeh". Just my opinion. Sometimes, with the right production and BGVs, Stevie's "rambling messes" can be kick ass!
