Stevie Recording A New Album With Dave Stewart Producing In Nashville...

Stevie's total studio output isn't very impressive considering the total span of her career, even with Fleetwood Mac included. But, it is what it is - I wouldn't give up any of it or wish any of it undone.

I do wish she recorded more frequently, however. She certainly has written enough to have half-a-dozen more albums than she does currently.

But I'm grateful for what she's released, and for all those master reels and demos to make up for what she hasn't released.

Dolly Parton is not the same thing as Stevie Nicks.

Dolly writes SOME of her own songs, maybe more than half, depending on the theme of the album. However, she mostly does covers and sings songs written by other people. Stevie SELDOM records a song written by someone else.

One could also state, and I think even Dolly Parton would agree, that what Dolly records is mostly "Crap" for the sake of "crap" and putting something out. A lot of Dolly's albums are throw away crap. Crap crap crap. No staying power. Dated. Drivel. AND I LIKE Dolly Parton.

Stevie holds her recording to a almost magical altar of magic and treats each song like a child. Unless it is from the Klonapin era she still loves that child. When was the last time she did anything from OSOTM or SA? once? in 1999? ROF?

So yah, I dont think the original poster was talking about interpreters of songs like Dolly, or Linda etc.... but rather solo artists that are songwritters and singers of their own songs.

Being a part of a Band and going solo, not many other artists can do that. Especially a woman. Natalie Merchant comes to mind. But even she LEFT and never went back. Stevie has had 7 and counting solo efforts, plus 8(ish) and counting FM, not counting compilations.

Oh how I wish Stevie would record and release an album every year. She has so many unreleased songs that I have heard that I love so much.

Stevie has a ton of songs written by other people.I'd gladly take 42 albums of Stevie even if others thought it was filled with crap. We all have different opinions anyways on which songs of hers are good and which aren't.

Well, by "Crap" I mean more along the lines of Pop for Pop sakes. Studio style mainstream stuff that Dolly recorded because it was a flash in the pan sorta Pop country song. No substance. Just filler.

I think that is Dolly's genius. She can sit there and write a song in 5 minutes just because. Stevie on the other hand needs to ponder it, have a frame of reference, sleep on it, and have this long drawn out process. Very rarely have you heard Stevie tell a story about how she just wrote a song in 5 minutes. Her process is much more laborious.

Dolly is a business women, and maybe even a definition genius. the Ditz routine is an act. She has a brain, despite being a self described "dumb blonde". Stevie....well we know she is not a natural blonde, but she sure can be dumb! haha

Her output is truly impressive. I listened to "Blue "Smoke" last week on NPR - it's an excellent album - in many ways a return to form for Dolly.

I've never been much into re-recorded old album tracks, but I wouldn't mind Dave giving "Smile at You" at try. I'm hoping a version produced by Dave and Stevie makes it on the album or at least a b-side or onto a movie soundtrack.

Dolly has written over 3000 songs. There have been a few albums (out of 42) that have mainly been covers, and she might throw a cover or two on the others, but there has to be somewhere for those 3000 songs to go.

Oh I'd come down on the other side. I'm not really happy with Annabel Lee. I don't dislike it, but it could use different editing, I think. Annabel Lee would not make me trust him with the meandering RTTG.
