The fact they are still waiting on Stevie all these years later is nobody's fault but their own...Would any other band put off recording for 10 years??? No they would have kicked the offending member to the curb and moved on...

Fleetwood Mac has chosen to be a stale "Greatest Hits" act instead of a band that continues to stay fresh and make new music...

Here's an idea...Mick can record another one of his "ZOO" albums and have Lindsey, Christine and John on all the songs and if he really wanted to make things interesting he could even have a few former band members on a song or two...That could eliminate the problem of recording a "Fleetwood Mac" record without Stevie on it...Since it technically wouldn't be a "Fleetwood Mac" record they could have a few songs that were a bit of a departure from the "Classic " sound without the fans crucifying the band for it...

why are you so worried about Fleetwood Mac without Stevie?

Mick, John, Lindsey and Christine would have much more classic FM sound than Mick, John, Lindsey and Stevie. so nothing to worry about. they can kick Stevie to the curb as you keep suggesting, and still be Fleetwood Mac.

I'm not worried in the slightest about a Stevie-less Fleetwood Mac...

As far as I'm concerned the less she has to do with the "soap opera" the better and I would rather have 12-15 solo songs as opposed to 3-5 FM songs where she has to have something the other 4 agree upon...

I was merely suggesting that if they don't use the "FM brand" that they don't have to answer for Stevie not being on a FM record...

Just to clarify when I say "Soap Opera" I mean just that...The "Soap Opera" seems to be the most important thing to the band (after MONEY of course ) and it gets old after a while...

The fans are creating the soap opera more then the band. All the speculating and people that ass u me the worst. I'm way more of a Stevie fan, but I'd much rather prefer a mac album. With Christne!!!
I like Lindsey too and I really like his latest FWM work: my little demon, He outshined Stevie for the 1st time ever on SYW, and loved extended play. Never heard his solo work, but can't wait to hear his songs. Been thinking about getting his solo work lately. Will check it on you tube first

definitely check his solo work. start from the songs on his most recent album, i think all of them are on youtube, including 6 live ones.

Well, the point I was trying to imply is that---IF all of this is true and Stevie is recording a solo record---she's looking out for Stevie, not the band.

And I'm not even saying she's wrong for doing that. But if she's not committed to making new FM music with the band, then I wish she'd just quit.

But what I really want is new FM music NOW…not later.

Overall, I prefer Lindsey's music over the other singers in the band, but his music sounds better in the more than capable hands of Mick, John, and Christine. I love OOTC and his other solo records, but I think any of them would have sounded better with the band backing him up [minus Stevie’s backing vocals, which often grate on me].

On the other hand, I don't own any solo work by the other singers. But that doesn't mean I don't like them. If I had to rank my all-time favorite FM tunes, both Stevie and Christine would occupy a couple of spots in the top 10["Landslide," "Hold Me," etc.]. And in some ways, Stevie and Christine are better writers than Lindsey.

But again, their music sounds better with Lindsey, Mick, and John playing it. The band is truly better than the sum of its parts.

So I think anything less than all five of them in the studio with a finished album is a huge let-down for fans. The tour isn't about the fans...it's about money, pure and simple. But if the tour provides them enough marketing buzz and financial security to eventually do an album, then I guess even the tour is worth it. Like it or not, this is probably the most likely scenario. And we have to accept the possibility that we may never get another album from the band.

As a fan, I can't help wanting new music as soon as possible, though. As others have noted all too well, this band has a habit of taking forever to record. I figure the sooner they start working [all of them, that is], the better.

So, yeah, as Elle pointed out, Stevie wins the chess game. I wish the rest of the band would be just as shrewd in its decision-making.

On tour, yes. But he has been outshining Stevie on record for years. You could argue they were even on Rumours, then he completely outshone everyone else on Tusk, then Mirage was a kind of a toss-up, then he outshone everyone again on Tango (bad lyrics and all).

Lindsey was masterful in his work on Tusk - song and production wise - but I wouldn't exactly say Stevie was OUTSHONE. It's not like her songs on that album in particular are poor. Angel? Sisters of the Moon? Beautiful Child? Storms? Sara? I'd say it was a pretty good showing from her as well, to be honest... They excel in different areas and I love them both solo. And together. And in the context of Fleetwood Mac. I like the majority of their songs on SYW also and while there are a few I nearly always skip (I'm looking at you, Silver Girl) and some I think would've been served better by being on GoS (hi, Come), I find it fairly consistently good and balanced in terms of 'who's best' as well, really. I guess I'm easily pleased.

Really, the soap opera people keep referring to in this thread is, at present, VERY fan-generated in many ways. I mean, I get the frustration and irritation right now, I do, but a little breath in between diminishing whatever member you feel annoyed by on any particular day wouldn't do any harm...

I think Say You Will was an unusually strong showing from both artists. Each one contributed a clunker... in Lindsey's case it was What's The World Coming To and for Stevie it was Silver Girl. But otherwise, I think they recorded some great stuff, with a broad range from both songwriters. Lindsey probably recorded his most artistic Mac tunes since Tusk, and Illume was Stevie's most avant garde song since Gold Dust Woman. I may pick on Say You Will for it's lack of continuity & manic nature, but that doesn't mean Stevie & Lindsey contributed poor material by any means.

To me, Tusk was Stevie's peak. I think it contains some of the best songwriting and even singing of her career. Same for Christine. Lindsey did some very interesting experimenting on Tusk, but did he or Chris or Stevie outshine each other on that album? I really don't think so. I think they were all pretty much at their best.
