That seems like a lot to me now, but at the time I remember being slightly disappointed that it didn't get there.
The Beach Boys released an album a couple summers ago, it hit #3. it sold like hotcates. With TWO of the originals (Carl and Dennis) both dead.

It was a GREAT album, and their best since the late 60's-1970.

If FM can do top 10, or top 5 or even #3 that would be great.

I really do think that hitting the top 3 will be really easy for them. 'Say You Will' was really close to hitting #1 and it sold a whopping 218,000 copies in its first week. Also, Stevie's 'In Your Dreams' hit #6 in 2011, so I don't think it'll be difficult for them to better that....

Album sales are plummeting. This week's total was
17% less than 2013's sales of the comparable week.
And 2013's was horrible.

For the week ending Jan. 12, 2014 Disney's Frozen
Soundtrack sold approximately 86,000 copies to keep
it at number 1 on Billboard's chart.

Fast forward to January 2015 when the new Fleetwood
Mac album will be released. With the projected numbers
it will only take the Mac 71,380 copies of We're Back to
reach number 1.

Anyone believe they can make that number?

Do we know what SYW's first week sales were?

Add the fact that the fan base of FM are people that buy actual hard copies i think that would only help sales. Most younger bands the fans just buy off iTunes.

When the beach boys hit #3 couple years ago they had done a lot of publicity and played on morning shows and on (god forbid if FM ever does this....) QVC. (barf)

By the time the album was released it was #3 the first week, and then I think #11.

Fleetwood Mac's last albums were #1 and #3. And those were late 90's early 2000s pre-iTunes and even pre-Napster days.

If they play the cards right, the management and WB/Reprise doesnt CHOKE on the publicity, and they really play the "Reunion with CHRIS" angle, there should be NO problem hitting top 5, or even #1!!!

iTunes sales are counted as part of Billboard's rankings.

First week sales for 'Say You Will' back in 2003 was 218,000 which is very impressive. It was also very close to hitting #1....

It really depends on how the album is promoted. I would say that if the band sticks with Warner Bros, then no, they won't hit that target. If they switch to a label that cuts them some sort of exclusive deal & actually promotes them, then it's certainly possible.

agree. i really don't know what WB can offer them these days. i don't see them doing some clever promotion for FM - if that's what they are after i suspect somebody else could do it better... and nowadays they don't do advances anymore like what swayed them to WBs from Interscope during SYW era, right?

People are deluding themselves by thinking just because Christine returned and may be on the next FM record that it's going to be a instant success & new classic. The desired music buying demographic that actually bother to buy music anymore are not going to be tripping all over themselves to buy the next FM record just because a 70 year old classic rock veteran came out of retirement to record a few more songs with the group.
Yes, Fleetwood Mac is still looked up upon & luckily are still celebrated, but a new release will be greeted no different than new Rolling Stone song's (that get ignored.) If they're lucky they will be shooting for Bruce Springsteen type accolades & critical acclaim. They need to stick to what they do best, making well crafted pop/rock songs that are mysteriously romantic & slightly dark. I've said it before, but if a new FM record is in the cards & gets released and does eventually sell 500K in the U.S., that would be a very big success in this current landscape for this very old band.

I agree that there's no reason for them to be with WB at all, but I think fear and inertia will make them want to be on that label again.

I don't think it matters anymore which label, or if they stay with WB. Afterall, there are currently only 3 big labels: Sony, Universal Music Group & Warner Music Group. What matters to the band is most likely going to be manufacturing, distribution & some promotion, which FM failed at majorly with their independently released EP last year.

On the heels of "Seven Wonders" selling 13K downloads last week after Stevies' appearance on AHS-Coven, debuting at #18 on Billboards rock digital songs chart 27 years after its original release, perhaps WB is going to be even more interested in making a little pocket change on a new FM record.

But that's the thing: why gravitate towards (or remain tied to) a big label. Why not try one of the smaller ones that might give more attention and push to FM. Big fish small pond.

As for money, I would imagine that FM is getting most of that from concert people like Live Nation and don't expect to make money off of the album. They may just not be willing to lose any money on it either, though.

See you hit it on the head here. If they promote the album with the tour and package it with a current type distribution method and deal.. The album can go viral. And by marketing the Original Rumours line up, I do believe it could get traction. People love that line up.
