Thanks Bombay. Yes, those guys did not give Stevie the respect she deserved. Even Don doesn't seem to have believed in her at the time. It's definitely not cool with me. However, I group that into the "average guy" behavior because sadly, such a sexist attitude seemed to be commonplace among men back then. Even now, some still struggle with it.

I have a lot of the Eagles music as that was pretty much my era.I do however think that in the second half of the 1970s that Fleetwood Mac were artistically the superior of the two,I have heard the Eagles called the" American Beatles" due to the number of hits that they had but IMO from 1975 -1980 Fleetwood Mac were much more deserving of that moniker.FM were a groups of five distinct personalities with a very special chemistry specific to that five and the average young person could name them or most of them unlike the Eagles who were more faceless even at the height of their fame and with a revolving cast of members.

But he must have gotten over it at some point, since he opened for her on a tour.

That might be because The Eagles were before their time. I who grew up in the 60's and 70's was exposed to all of our today's classic rock when the songs were brand new. Brand spankin' new. So to me The Eagles are one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever, with a treasure trove of hits. However, when I saw them live in 1980, they bored me to tears with their live show. They sounded just like the records and that's not what I want to hear in a live setting.

It always surprises me that there isn't more crossover from the hardcore Fleetwood Mac fandom into the Eagles one. They seem to appeal to the same demographic in terms of casual fans, yet many of my hardcore Fleetwood Mac fan friends don't think much of the Eagles. By contrast, almost all of my hardcore Eagles fan friends like FM.
I remember there was talk that they might double bill, FM and The Eagles. And the FM fans were very upset by the prospect and I thought they would be just as mad on the Eagles board but someone said they read the Eagles fan boards and they weren't mad over there. It made me laugh. FM fans are always mad about something. I guess some bands just have more mellow audiences.

I'm a big fan of the Eagles; I have their entire catalog, yet strangely, the closest I've ever come to seeing them in concert was seeing Don Henley at his Great Woods charity show in Mansfield, MA in the 1990s.

Perhaps it's a blessing and a curse that they are so polished that they sound just like their records. The Eagle pride themselves on that ability, and it is very impressive. But not all bands have that ability or ethic, and some have very different dynamics.

I prefer to hear a performance that has a life apart from a studio facsimile. It's more soulful, organic and distinct when the song is distilled down to a more raw or organic form in live presentation. It's more unique and intimate. That why I fascintated with Fleetwood Mac when I started to discover e and collect early cassette bootlegs of their shows. It was alway fun to hear how they adapted their arrangements for live performance.

I think Don got over it as soon as he saw she was serious about going solo. No one held a gun to his head to do a duet with her, after all.

However, if I recall correctly, the "Two Voices" tour was a double bill, so he wasn't actually opening for her - If that's what you're referring to. On the other hand, Joe Walsh did indeed open for Stevie on her Wild Heart tour. That's how they met.

Michele - from what I've seen, hardcore Eagles fans as a rule are definitely a lot more mellow than hardcore Mac fans. I remember that double bill rumor. It would have been a dream come true for me! Alas, 'twas not to be.

Yes, that's what I was referring to. And it was a double bill, but he played first. In all the ads, the Heart and Soul tour looked like a double bill too, but it wasn't.
