I thought somebody mentioned recently that Stevie had been interviewed for this documentary that was released in 2013. It was aired on television last night, but I didn't notice an appearance from her. Linda Ronstadt featured quite prominently, which was a nice bonus, but no Stevie.
Does anyone know if perhaps there was an extended version featuring Stevie, maybe on dvd? |

She was on at the very end. It was brief.

Thanks for that - I must have missed it because I was fast-forwarding through as I can't bear The Eagles! Cheers.

It was during the credits. I was shocked she was used so little. She wrote songs about Don Henley and Joe Walsh. Don flew her out for booty calls and impregnated her (although I can understand why they didn't want to talk about the pregnancy, Stevie has never been shy about talking about the relationship). As for her other Eagles dalliance, Stevie ensured Joe finished The Confessor. Of course, we all know Joe is loath to talk about Stevie, but you'd think they'd include her gushing about him as the "love of her life." Then again, the only thing they seemed to want to talk about when it came to that period in Joe's life was his substance abuse and alcoholism.
Very disappointing. I'd still recommend viewing it if you're an Eagles fan, though. It's full of fascinating insights into the history of the band, and since that was its main purpose, we'll just have to overlook the waste of Stevie. Last edited by sodascouts; 01-22-2014 at 10:22 AM.. |

Thanks again for the helpful comments. I will check out the closing credits if it is broadcast again.
Aussie W/Heart, it was shown on pay tv (Music Max channel) on Tuesday evening. I taped it in order to glimpse Stevie, but didn't see her excerpt when I fast-forwarded through. Unfortunately, I just deleted it afterwards as I have no interest in the Eagles. I will keep an eye out just in case it is repeated and let you know. |

You won't regret it if you're a completist like I am. For the approx. 30 seconds she was on, she looks fantastic.

I'm the same Sodascouts. I love these little excerpts of Stevie that crop up from time to time, like the brief appearance she made on that D Day special back in 1994. For many years, any footage of Stevie was so scarce (at least in Australia) that I would lap up anything that came my way.

Even if you aren't an Eagles fan (which I'm not) but like music docs - you might like it. I really loved it and actually from it have new found respect for their song writing and how some of the tunes came to be.. Thought the film was really well done.

although now besides not liking their songs, i also formed a really low opinion about Glenn Frey (what a dick! and proud of it) and Don Henley (what a complete bore). ![]() i found it refreshing they didn't embellish/select out the footage of Joe Walsh at his lowest phases. he looked worse than sh*t, and that's shown straight up, nothing glorifying there.

The politics fascinated me—seeing how two of the guys, by sheer force of personality, push their way into band leadership, calling the shots on musical style, songs on albums, personnel changes, etc., while the other, quieter guys are left wondering how they became support members. I've seen this happen in bands so many times. Each time, it's like a melodrama playing itself out.

Don Henley boring? Well, he tends to be a bit serious, but he must have known how to show Stevie a good time! As for Joe Walsh... That footage wasn't even rock bottom for him. I have a bootleg from the early 90s that I can't even watch because he's in such bad shape. He looks gaunt, and he's almost incoherent onstage. At least in the clips they showed in the doc, he was still able to carry on a meaningful conversation and remember the words to songs. Not so in the early 90s. Dragging yourself out of a pit that deep is no mean feat; for many addicts, even millions of dollars isn't enough motivation to make them say no to the bottle. He's definitely worthy of our admiration and respect. |

^^ interesting opinions, sodascouts.
it's fascinating to compare the impressions from fans vs the impressions of people who had no opinion whatsoever about any of these people, before watching the movie. although i guess i may be somewhat biased because looking at their setlists, i could never make it through the Eagles concert but would love to go see Walsh solo show. or one of those Ringo/Walsh bashes. but as people, i had no opinion about any of the eagles guys, and barely even knew who was in that band. before seeing the movie, i barely knew his name and could not pick out Glenn Frey from the crowd, the only guys i would recognize were Henley and Walsh. so all my impressions came from the movie. didn't mean to step on your favorites. ![]()

Yeah, since it seemed most folks here aren't that impressed with the Eagles, I thought I'd offer an alternate perspective.
It always surprises me that there isn't more crossover from the hardcore Fleetwood Mac fandom into the Eagles one. They seem to appeal to the same demographic in terms of casual fans, yet many of my hardcore Fleetwood Mac fan friends don't think much of the Eagles. By contrast, almost all of my hardcore Eagles fan friends like FM. I've always wondered if the Stevie factor had anything to do with that curious divergence, but that's another topic. I agree with Elle that it's fascinating to compare opinions that were drawn entirely from a two hour documentary by someone otherwise ignorant of the band, as opposed to those formed by fans who, for years, have been reading entire books about the band, watching / reading dozens of interviews with band members, hearing about or experiencing interactions with them, etc. It's quite understandable that the opinions would not be identical. Likewise, if someone who didn't really care that much about Fleetwood Mac were to form their opinions of the band based entirely on the interactions in the Say You Will documentary, they would probably have a different impression of them than those of us who are big fans. It's quite natural and I don't take any offense at someone expressing an opinion that differs from mine. I'm just offering my own as well. It's all good. ![]() Last edited by sodascouts; 01-23-2014 at 02:41 PM.. |
