What's she going to say next? Katy Perry's a genius too? Nobody writes inspirational songs like Katy. E.T. rocked my socks. I guess I take this like I take many things Stevie says...ok, ok, enough.

He won the Grammy for song of the year with Daughters.. which I think is an amazing song- about the only one that makes me cry every time I hear it.

You can always pick an example of anything and use it to try to prove something, but all you may end up proving is the rule to the exception.

Even if Don Henley's not your favorite person, he's achieved a lot of critical recognition as a major songwriting talent. It's not just sales.
Halls of Fame and Grammys primarily measure success, which is based on popularity. Popularity is not a measure of quality. It simply can't be, and it's why in other realms, brilliant artists are often recognized after they die.

Don Henley may be a decent songwriter, but he's not a Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen. Hell, he's not even a Stevie Nicks!

John Mayer has some quality songs. Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, Why Georgia, Gravity, Daughters... His first album Room For Squares and his album Continuum are pretty solid and great, IMO. He's put out some crap, too, but... Are we really trying to pretend that Stevie (or Lindsey, for that matter) has never written/put out bad music herself?

That is a good point. All songwriters write some not-so-great songs - its only natural. Some of Stevie's lyrics don't look that great written down, but when they are put to music they seem much better. I haven't listened to John Mayer's music, so I won't judge him on the above song. The lyrics of it did tickle me for some reason...

Even Lindsey has praised John Mayer ...and how many things do he and Stevie agree on???

There's a clip somewhere of LB at the Grammy's a few years back with Kristen-- I think this was where she had her hair up in a sort of braided style-- and they asked him who he was rooting for to win that night and he said that being a fellow guitar player he of course was rooting for John Mayer.

although if i remember correctly, he was praising Mayer as a guitarist, not necessarily his songwriting.

All I know about John Mayer is that he is something of a womanizer who seems to always be indiscreet about his relationships in interviews and his songs....kind of a tool. but that's just me.

Stevie's a genius, but her taste stinks.

Well then, show's how little you know really. He pretty much put out one idiotic interview and that's what people have used against him forever since. Get over it. Name one song where he comes across as a tool.

I don't like John Mayer. He's too soft and too bland.

I don't like Katy Perry or her brand of bland, soul-less synthesized modern pop fluff.

I like Don Henley's tastes, but I really hate his music. If I never hear "Boys Of Summer," "Desperado," or "Hotel California" ever again, I would be the luckiest man in the world. What REALLY chaps my bum, though, is that the Eagles did "Seven Bridges Road" and said that they learned it from Steve Young. HOWEVER, the version they did was note-for-note the same version as Ian Matthews 1974 version, which was arranged by Michael Nesmith.

Steve Young's 1969 version

Ian Matthews' 1974 version
