I think that people are forgetting that Stevie actually admitted that she was a witch in the 1970s and then when MTV interviewed her in 1983 and stated to her "you once said you were a witch"she responded " I lied".

I suppose I need the source and full context, as I'm really unfamiliar with that. But it doesn't seem very incriminating to me to jokingly state you're a witch and then take it back a decade later when everyone is freaking out at you. That actually seems rather normal behaviour to me.
