Also, Mick wouldn't have been hinting so hard for another invitation to Glastonbury if he'd known that John would be battling cancer. Michele

Though somehow that 18 months thing he mentioned with a final FM album makes sense in this context.

I forgot about that. Without John, the "heart",imo, of the band is gone. He and Mick ARE the band.

Yes, they definitely need too d one final huzzah before the grim reaper comes a-knocking. A full length album, mini world tour(if John is strong enough), and a live cd/dvd will suffice.

I was shocked to see this news on my Facebook.

Sending all wishes to John McVie for a speedy recovery. There's not much more to be said, but canceling the next leg of the tour and getting right to treatment is definitely the right move.

[Liz is listed as the band spokesperson. I wonder if that's her official status or she was just tapped to handle this event]

People Magazine, October 27, 2013

http://www.people.com/people/article...749741,00.html

Fleetwood Mac is canceling planned performances in Australia and New Zealand as bassist John McVie is treated for cancer.

Band members Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham said in a statement Sunday that they're sorry to cancel the 14 show dates and hope "fans everywhere will join us in wishing John and his family all the best."

Band spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg did not specify what type of cancer McVie is treating.

Fleetwood Mac recently finished a European tour. The New Zealand and Australia shows were scheduled through Dec. 7 (Watch them discuss the tour below). The band is also set to perform in Las Vegas on Dec. 30.

"Even thinking optimistically that would be pushing it. They need to cancel that show. Unless they are considering getting another basis"

You know..... Fleetwood Mac has gone through several personel changes... and survived.
They had Lindsey quit and it went on.....
They had Stevie leave for awhile, and though it didn't do really well, they survived.
They had Christine disappear and were still quite successfull
I think they could even replace Mick and things would roll along...
The one person that I have always thought could never be replaced is John...
He has quietly been the bed-rock and literally the heart of the group... Without him there is no Fleetwood Mac. He is the heart beat.....

Just listen to any and all the songs.. Without his bass ,,,,,,,,,,

I think you could easily get another drummer, but you can't replace the position Mick holds, mentally or emotionally. He's a neutral, an arbitrator, a mediator, the glue that keeps them all together, through the strong ties he has with each member individually.

He's the motor that keeps it all running, sometimes sneakily. Without Mick, the center cannot hold.

It can't be Fleetwood Mac without the Fleetwood or the Mac. Simple as that.

Didn't Stevie already tour over there the last two years? (A little bit out of it when it comes to her touring overseas. I know she loves it over there.)

Hey, if you're getting a Buckingham Nicks thing, I want my Buckingham Perfect one-off thing too.

I was so looking forward to seeing my favourite band for the first time, the last time they came to NZ I missed out - I was only 19 years old and didn't have the money or a means of transport to get to New Plymouth of all places lol I was so desperate to see them this time that I bought tickets from a scalper on trademe when the shows were all sold out...a lesson learned right there. Just joined The Ledge now so I could interact with others who love FM and John McVie as much as I do, being 23 years old hardly anyone my age even knows who they are! which I find very disconcerting lol Poor John McVie, I so hope he pulls through and I hope one day I will see him and the rest of the band play their beautiful music that means so much to me and to so many others

hey welcome! I'm new too. I guess its bit of a sad time to join, but its great that there is so much positivity on here willing John to get better. I'm sorry you didn't get to see them this year - I really felt for all the aussies and kiwi's who have waited so long to see them. I did manage to get to my first concert last month. I also get so much enjoyment from listening to their music and watching clips on you tube - hope you do too and I hope you get to see them in the future.

I'll bet it was a last-minute, one-time thing. Fleetwood Mac normally contracts out their publicity projects (1888 Media did the PR at the beginning of the North American tour). Stevie probably called Liz (since she's already her official publicist) as soon as she found out, knowing that Liz could work fast and would do it in a heartbeat because of their close professional relationship.

1888 Media did the Rumours re-release... Liz probably had a hand in this press release as well. She's released the last few on the band. She did both the initial tour announcement last December and the second announcement in January where they added more dates and did the Extended Play announcement in April.
